i dont believe in the big bang. seems a bit mythical that an exploding star or whatever can create a whole solar system or planet...or whatever.

Do you even know anything about what the theory is? Other than the almost completely ignorant "once the universe was this teeny, tiny thing and then it suddenly exploded and the universe was huge" distillation of the theory?

Cosmic microwave background radiation that came along in 1964 along with galactic cluster distribution and expansion, Hubble's law, some magnificent Hubble Ultra Deep Field telescope images that show the universe 13 billion years ago, and the fantastic results of WMAP's recent experiments on CMBR are making things look really, really good for the Big Bang.

I find Planck's Epoch really exciting. I'm loving String Theory and how it relates to the Grand Unification Theory physicists are searching for. Of course, they have to find a way to actually conduct experiments on String Theory. They're building a particle accelerator in Europe that they hope will give them a boost in the right direction. Can't wait to see how that works out, got me on pins and needles.

Physics is beautiful, just plain beautiful.

christians have this dumb idea that some super being willed everything into existence.

I'm not completely comfortable with the concept of big bang, but that is the implication from current cosmology. The implications beyond that go off into the realm of the borderlands of science...such as string theory, membranes and multiverses. But at least it is base on scientific reasoning and can be tested.

It might help if you actually had a clue about what you were talking about, I just love hearing Xtians misstating a theory and then disagreeing with it. Just remember that the bible is the truth and that Heaven is just on the other side of the Sky, that the planets move around because the angels are playing with them, that god puts the sun out every night and lights it again every morning, and that men rode on the backs of dinosaurs.

Yeah, don't mind those know-it-all scientists! They do nothing but research things like medicine and stuff so they can find cures for diseases. They're doing nothing but wasting their time, aren't they? Like, they should be totally be going to church instead! Besides, people can heal if they pray to God enough, and if not, they're obviously full of sin and deserve to die!

Not!

I believe that God created evolution and the Big Bang. Screw what some book says. Think for yourself.

I don't know steady state theory has its own merits. It just got forgotten because the leading support of the steady state theory(Roger Penrose) insulted the Big Bang and people automatically accepted it for some reason.

the theory is that billions of years ago, the entire universe was collapsed into an extremely dense mass the size of a matchead. and it was spinning in the void, and kept on getting perpetually faster. faster and faster it spun until finally, BANG! it exploded, and the bits expanded and created everything in our universe today. Man... getting hungry for popcorn for some reason....... spinning faster and faster,,, BANG! lol

Makes more sense than a so-called big daddy in the sky. I, for one, can appreciate scientific theory. If gives me logic to wrap my head around.

No, I don't agree with the model ... but that's all it really is, a philosophical model based on limited information. Like most things in science, it will be revised many times as more/better information becomes available.

So why are you being so defensive?

The "big bang" has credible evidence to support it.

There is no credible evidence to support the claim that some invisible magician spoke everything into existence.

Right ...
and the world is flat
held up by a giant turtle.
It is sooooo good that we are returning to the dark ages ... maybe the inquisition will return and make all the ignorant far right religious zealots happy.
