what if a christian turns to atheism. is he still saved then? what if he curses God and says Jesus isn't the Son of God is he still saved?

I believe in such a thing as backsliding. but at the same time we turn our backs on God, He is always out trying to lead the 1 lost sheep back to the flock of 99. So once we Find Jesus, we always can't find that joy or feeling anywhere else, so we always come Back to God, but at the same time, we're 'lost' sheep until we do come back to God.

So i'm not saying this to offend ppl k? but plz cite some verses :) ty

Certainly. I'd be more than happy to.

Let me clarify some things first. Since true Christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (third person of the Godhead), and His job is to keep them from turning their backs on God, anyone who turns their back on God (and please understand, I am talking about people who NEVER want to come back), were never Christians to begin with. If they were, then the Holy Spirit (God) failed in His job. Not possible.

John 6:37-40
"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

Now, if the Bible is true and God is not a liar, then whoever really comes to Christ will be raised up at the last day. Jesus will never lose even one.

I have known many who claimed to be Christians but who never really gave their lives to God. They said the words, but the words are not what saves us. God sees our heart, not our words. Experiences can be faked. Having the true God live in you can't be.

The website I am giving below says it better than I can. (It's late and I'm off to bed.)

Properly formed, its called "perseverance of the saints" and it is false doctrine. It traces its history mainly to John Calvin.

Gal 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace... if it was impossible, they couldn't do it.

I was raised to believe in once save always saved, but I noticed that there are other passages that imply that apostasy (turning one's back on his faith) is unforgivable.

I have heard it argued both ways. If you believe in the preservation of the saints (and predestination and all that), then you also have to believe that someone who is saved will always act saved since God keeps his elect from gross sin.

It sort of depends on your views on "free will". Does it really exist, or do we just think that we have it because we were destined to think that way?

------------------
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
~1 John 3:9

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
~1 John 5:18
