I guess to the Atheist, it does not matter what the reason is, or do they have a purpose of existence?
To my believe, We are the children of God, earth life is a time to prove our loyalty to his commandments.
Earth life is a time where we learn and be tested on our righteousness.
If we pass the test, then we can return to our home in heaven, it fail, we will be cast out.

We exist to worship God and to accept his Son as our Savior so that our worship will be in Spirit and Truth. God didn't need us, he desired us and within each of us in a desire for God, but many of us become so materialistic and deafened by greed and the world, we can't hear the still small voice of God reminding us of what it was we were sent into the world for.

We exist to make God happy. He created us for His pleasure- we worship God because He gave us life and a purpose for living. Those who realize that will always know who they are and why they go on every day.

Evolution if you're normal, or if you have an abnormal intellect, any old answer will do. Many religious cults tend to quote from the Bible for their reasons, but as most reasonably intelligent people know nowadays, relgious belief is part of a common mental illness.

'Why' is a relational question between two things. In this case it depends on a 'relationship' between you and the universe and time. The universe (which inherently must include you) is a singularity so the question of 'why' cannot apply to it.
You just are.
