Often times we carry emotions in our bodies at the unconscious level. It sounds like the pain in your chest is associated with the built-up emotions and frustrations you are holding in your body that you are not able to express fully because of the limitations of your culture and personality traits you have developed from childhood.

There is a whole new realm of body-centered psychology that has done some wonderful work on understanding emotional responses from a body-centered viewpoint. I'd suggest you check out a book by Peter Levine called "Waking the Tiger." It deals principally with the holding of trauma in the body, but the principals apply equally to any type of pent-up emotions, sexual energy, traumas, tensions that are being held in the body but cannot be expressed. Levine is one of the principal founders of a field of psychology called Somatic Experiencing. Somatic experiencing teaches you to become aware of the felt sense of the body at an incredibly subtle level to begin to recognize, fully experience and ultimately release those pent up emotions and blockages in the flow of energy in your body. It is still not exactly mainstream, but it is an extraordinarily powerful technique for developing a much deeper and more integrated sense of self if you give it a chance.

Actually, it could be heartburn. You get sad and start worrying about how you feel and that gets the acid in your tummy going and it could be what is causing the pain in your chest. Try not to worry about it. If you are meant to have any relationship with anyone, it will happen. If not in this lifetime, in the next.
