A day at a time. Find support. Everybody hurts. We need the kind of friends who have empathy and sympathy and it sure helps. It also helps to do small but nice things for others.

You didn't indicate your source of sadness, so I can only give you my best shot.
Talk to those closest to you, whom you sincerely trust understand you and will respect your confidence. If you have to cry, then do so.
If you are in an abusive situation, and a minor, talk to an adult who can help. Never take abuse. Extricate yourself quickly if this is an abusive situation.
If it's a loss, then you have to grieve and take support from others. If not a major thing, engross yourself in a TV show with dynamic characters that are effectively dealing with their problems. Listen to music that gives positive answers to your questions, rather than sad stuff.
Spend time with people, or at places, you feel safe and happy. Sadness is just the crabgrass in life.
Talk to a mental health professional if you are having wayward thoughts about the value of your existence ASAP.

I make a pro/con (good/bad) list and fill in each column, as much as I can. This makes me look at a situation logically, instead of emotionally. This is good for any decision.
It is okay to feel: sad, angry, happy, etc. It is when we let these emotions take over our lives above daily living, that we need to take notice.
Let yourself feel, take stock of life, and move on. You must move on, or life is temporarily over. This process takes time, and is different for everyone. When a little voice inside starts to prompt you towards your "real" life, it is time to move on.
Take the time to heal though, and not deflect feelings. If you hide emotions, they WILL surface, even 10, 20, 40, 70 years later!!! Personal experience, 20 years...learn from me.

Usually... and as immature as this sounds it's true.
I whine and wallow in self-pity.
I write e-mails to people that bother me then don't send them but store them in a readme.
I write hundreds of blogs that no one else can see.
I call my best friends and ask to just talk.. not about my depression. If they ask I just tell them I'm not doing well but I don't wanna talk about it.
