Tobacco was unknown outside of the Americas until after European colonization. While cannabis use is widespread in Asia Minor and Assyria, there appears to be little use of cannabis in Greek and Roman cultures. Therefore, there is no mention of "smoking" in the canonized books of the Bible.
Toke on, brudda.

Amalyn is correct. The reference is 1 Corinthians 3:16. There is a statutory warning on the Cigarette Pack that says smoking is injurious to health. When the manufacturers themselves say that smoking is injurious to your body and it is bad, what more do your require? Our bodies are meant to be holy, and living place for the Holy Spirit. God cannot live in an unholy, sick, smelling body. Don't you agree? So whether the Bible says it or not, smoking is bad for the body and your health. Chuck the habit!!!!

I have to say that I am a Christian and I do smoke. I have looked and looked and asked other Christians about smoking. This is the response I got:
We are supposed to treat our bodies like a temple and we wouldn't smoke in a temple, but no one feels that if I smoke that is will stop me from going to heaven. So this is how I look at it. i have my Walk with God and when he lets me know that it is time to either pick him, God or the smoking I will quit. Until then I will work on other areas that the Lord needs me to do.

One of the commandments states "You shall have no other gods before me" -Gideons Bible- Exodus 20:3
To me, this means that I can not value anything above God. If you have an addiction, you are putting that above God in my opinion, because an addiction is when your life is controlled by something, whatever it be. If your life is controlled to a point of smoking when you get a craving, in my mind you are, in a way, putting cigarettes onto a pedestal, and can be considered an idol.
I think it is purely a thing between God and man however, and will not try and influence a persons choices based on my own beliefs.
It's purely up to the individual, I think.

Drinking is written there in Matthew, it does not say however, whether it is right or wrong to drink. Remember Jesus turning.water into wine? Smoking may have been invented in coldest region as one of the ways to keep the body warm but the pleasures of smoking spread to places in any climatic condition.
However, if you really believe that your body is the temple of your soul, then maybe should consider not putting anything that will desecrate that temple. Remember what smoking could do to your lungs.

I am a Jew, and therefore I will answer it from Judaism's perspective and refer to only the old testament. No there is no direct verse saying that one cannot smoke, however, we do have a concept that since our bodies are not our own, and rather G-d's, we cannot do anything to destroy our body. that is why judaism also says that tattoos arent ok. so before it became clear that smoking is harmful, many rabbis so it as no problem and some even smoked themselves! nowadays, however, when it has been scientifically proven that smoking is harmful, i havent seen one rabbi yet to say that it is permissible, as u r damaging ur body which is a precious gift from G-d.

the bible talks about taking care of your body as if it were a temple of God. So for instance I could see where some people would interpret that as not smoking because you would be knowingly causing damage to your body, which inturn would be displeasing to God because he created you.
You get what I'm trying to say. Can't remember exactly where. I'll look it up and get back to you on that. It's in the old testiment I know.

Well I think of the scriptures that says that your body is a temple of God and that you should not put anything harmful into it. I know the bible says that but I am not sure where. It is in the new testament some where.

The Bible is clear that our bodies are "the temple of the Holy Spirit" and we are to take care of them accordingly. If you smoke you are obviously not taking care of your body properly. Also, considering that we know smoking causes many horrible diseases and can kill, in a sense, they are committing a sin against the commandment that says "Thou shall not kill".

No, there are no verses that tell you not to smoke.
But, there is a verse that says: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
This means that whatever we do with our bodies should be honoring to God. And that means to take care of our health.
