Atheists say they want to be left alone and not forced or talked into anyone elses religion. It looks like on this site it is mostly atheists that are asking argumentative and inflammatory questions meant to persuade or demean those with any beliefs that are different than theirs. Isn't this exactly why atheists get mad at non-atheists. I'm extremely religious but I never discuss my religion with others unless they initiate the conversation. And only then if they seem completely comfortable talking about it. But atheists want to insult and demean me. I don't get it. Why can't we all just respect eachother's beliefs even if you think the other person is wrong?
PS. I know there are a lot of religious people who are also this way and I don't defend that. I think it's wrong. I just wish we could stop being so hateful toward eachother.

What amazes me is how you generalize all Atheists or at least that is how you have presented your question. Furthermore it is proven by those that have replied to your questions..
Now the problem that I have as most other Atheists is that people; theists tend to view us in a demeaning way simply because we do not believe in a deity. We get more insulted by theists, with comments like they are ignorant or blinded by the devil or not able to see that god exist. ect..

In order to respect ones beliefs one has to respect the other person or lack of.. But more importantly it is also a matter of having to deal with religion and pushing this idea that everyone MUST believe in a deity.

Each of us hae our own reasons why we are Atheists. Some of us grew up in an Atheist family while others have realized that there is no god. And because of that we are treated like second class citizens.

for most of us we come here to hear why you believe in a deity.
pose questions to see where and how you have come about your conclusions. To simply believe in a deity because yo have to doesn't make any sense just as it does not make any sense as there even being one.

As one person claimed that we parapharse the bible and yet SOME religious people do just that, parapharse the bible or take quotes from the bible that conform to their ideology.

I myself was catholic even attend 12 years of catholic school but gave it up because I never had believed that there ever was a god.

Rememer things work both ways you say that Atheist insult you well just look at some of the response to your question from theists about Atheists.

You make a good point. Athiests on this board that insult and demean theists and who primarily dislike theists because of such activity are hypocrits. For the most part, the athiests (and I suspect the thiests) enjoy the dialogue because the anger on both sides fuels their self-righteousness. Therefore, as much as the activity appears to be ripe with hatred and destruction, it may very well be productive in the long run.

But then again, what do I know? I'm agnostic.

They ask questions to provoke a fight. So they can whip down a ungrounded Christian and make them "think" that can't stand UP for Christ.

It's a old mind game. Sad enough, too many new Christians are not taught how to use the awesome power of God's Words and set things true.

A well versed Christian can beat a atheist like a dirty rug.

You have to understand, a atheist is a scriptural scoffer. God has no use for them. God Homself says: shun them. Stay away. God does not even want you wasting your time with them. (Psalms.3:1-3)

Game over. :)

Good Question.

I think the problem with the atheists is that they just don't get it. A lot try to paraphrase the bible, and are so bad at interpreting, or they already have a chip on their shoulder about God, so they try to interpret the bible, wrongly, and in the meanest way possible. A lot of them say what about this quote from the bible, and I look at what it is and how they have interpreted it, and they have done it completely wrong. I'm really good at interpreting difficult literature, and I notice a lot of atheists are bad at it. They JUST DONT GET IT!

I agree. We just live our life and be responsible for our own self, doing the best we can. All people deserve respect. Christians are really demeaned on this site.

When atheists say they do not want to be forced into religion, that means that they want religion kept out of government, and they don't want people trying to convert them.

Just like with every group, some atheists are hypocrits or jerks.

They do it because religious people claim to be morally superior and call atheists sinners.
If you look at what all the religious people are doing in the Middle East you will understand why this is offensive.

It varies, depending on the atheist. I only avoid discussing religion with people who I like and might be offended by serious discussion, whatever their convictions are. Not everyone likes intellectual roughhouse.
