Because they fail as a spiritual guide, soon God will have the kings of the earth destroy them completely so that they will never recover, this is their punishment for failing to teach the truth about God and scattering his sheep. The true religion however is growing quite well in all the nations of the earth, their numbers increase daily as Jesus separates the sheep from the goats.

Churches are getting smaller????? What about all the megachurches!?
In my hometown I've noticed that some of the churches are growing while others are declining. I am not exactly sure why some are expanding (one church not only finished a new renovation, they now have a brand new, state of the art sign and another a few years ago just added a health and fitness section to their church....among all the other facilities that the church already has). I guess some churches are just appealing more to people than others and so some are shrinking in numbers (and size) and others are growing in numbers (and size).
That said, the same seems to happen with bars and dance clubs around here, too. Some can be very popular and be growing and then all of a sudden there is a change and some other club/bar is growing in numbers and eventually has the money to expand, etc. Not that I am saying that the churches are like bars and dance clubs, but what I mean actually is that whatever just happens to be appealing to people (whatever it is that is of interest to them), that seems to be reflected in what is growing and what is shrinking. Our city has a Wal-Mart Super Center, but our K-Mart is still just a Big K-Mart, it hasn't upgraded to a Super K-Mart. And our indoor shopping mall has been in decline for some time while those outdoor stretch shopping centers seem to be growing up all over the city.
Compare this with the city that I reside in now and it seems somewhat different. In this city the largest churches are still the oldest churches in the city and they are still growing while the newest churches are the one's that struggle. The clubs and bars have a difficult time growing, most of them are "sports bars" (it's a college town so that is probably why, plus it is a lot closer to the greater metropolitan area than my hometown and the metro area has a lot more clubs and bars that cater to specific people). So most of the bars and clubs in the town are restaurants by day and bars/clubs at night and are relatively small (one even has a fitness center attached to it). And the city has two Wal-Mart Super Centers with a third one on its way to being built and a Super Target also almost finished being built. It has one indoor shopping mall and several outdoor stretch malls with more of those being built as well as several indoor shopping malls proposed. Other types of big-box stores are very popular in this city (unlike my hometown which generally prefers local businesses...with the exception of Wal-Mart and K-Mart which are about the only 'corporate' box stores that have survived).
Another really poor example, perhaps, is that in my hometown there is a Sonic Drive-In Restaurant at each end of the city. One on the westside, one on the eastside, one on the northside, and one on the southside (and this is only a city of 45,000 people). Whereas in the city I reside at now there are only two Sonic Drive-In Restaurants. One on the northwestside and one on the southeastside. However it does have three Pizza Huts whereas my hometown has only one Pizza Hut. So apparently in my hometown Sonic appeals to people more than Pizza Hut whereas in the city I now reside in Pizza Hut is much more popular than Sonic.
I think that is why some churches are getting smaller and some are getting larger (for better or for worse). The small churches stay around because there are people who prefer to go to smaller churches and some folks who join the larger churches because it is what appeals to them.

Bars and dance clubs are made larger on the point of financial returns and is obviously tangible though temporary in nature.
Church are getting smaller because the larger ones are becoming hard to maintain and its return is not tangible but permanent in spiritual gain.

Haven't noticed that the bars and clubs are getting bigger, but have noticed churches closing. Personally I think it is because people are getting more educated and are living life.

Because Christianity is proportionally becoming less popular, whereas night entertainment is proportionally becoming more popular?
If you're asking why, it's probably because people are tired of feeling guilty for their desires. People should feel guilty for actions, not desires. Desires aren't consciously controlled.

OK i am honestly speaking, god does not demand love and prayers.if u don't worship him than it wont affect your life.
you should worship him for your own pleasure like HARE KRISHNA.i am highly impressed by those guys.
You don't need any church, any mosque for him.
what you need is just the feeling of being god`s son.love him instead of praising him.feel him instead of talking about him.The FOLLOWERS of HARE Krishna use to say GOD IS IN US ,WE DO NT NEED ANY TEMPLE.WE ARE OUR TEMPLES.

There is a story, which is fairly well known, about when the missionaries came to Africa. They had the Bible and we, the natives, had the land. They said "Let us pray," and we dutifully shut our eyes. When we opened them, why, they now had the land and we had the Bible.

No, small churches are being killed off by super-churches. Go google (oops, go yahoo) super-churches. They make more money and are more fun.
