My favorite language is definitely French- and my favorite country is Canada, so this bodes well for your plan to learn French in Canada. My mom is a French Historian and she needed to be near the Parisian archives this year to research for her latest book, so I moved to Paris with her and enrolled myself in the neighborhood highschool. Learning French was actually very easy for me because I had to speak it with my friends day in and day out. I watched TV in French, did my homework in French, and eventually began to dream in French as well. It's such a lyrical language, and there are some people who really seem to savor the words on their tongue, who roll their "r"s dramatically and replace pauses in their sentences with groans and curses. These are the true Francais, and they make it all worth while.
I imagine that learning French in Canada would be just as helpful as in France, with one exception. The quebequois accent is so strange and loopy that even canadian tv shows aired in France have to come with subtitles. But that's not too much of a problem- I suppose it would be like learning English in Texas!

Canadian french is not really the same as the french they speak in France or Africa. It's like Canadian, American, and British english-they are somewhat the same, but have some differing vocabulary.
With French though, you should decide which country you would go to more to use it. I say this because my grandfather was raised in a city called Hull near the Ontario/Quebec border and he was fluent. When he went to France he had no clue what they were saying, and they thought he was nuts cause they didn't understand the french he spoke either.
If you decided that you wanted to study french in Montreal, you could also learn African french because there are a lot of Africans there. I was there for about 2 months and picked up both Canadian and African french.
As well, most of the programs/books.etc. that you can buy are the french that is spoken in France.
I loved learning French. I wouldn't say it's my favorite language though. As well, if you're American, learning Canadian french is pretty simple if you know some spanish. They're fairly similar so it's really easy to pick up. I was shocked to find out that I could understand quite a bit of spanish just because some words are so similar.
Good luck!

My favorite language to listen to is Italian...just because it is so lyrical. The only language I know to speak though is Arabic and that is because I lived in Tunisia for a year, plus I studied it at Penn State for 1 year. If I hear just a little bit of Arabic, it makes me feel like home, because that is where my husband was from and I had a lot of Arab friends at Penn State. Even though we are no longer together, his family still tries to keep in contact and I still think of them as family

well english.. because it so damn useful .. 'not because it sounds nice' heh
Italian is a very nice language .. romantic.. i agree with Kellia .. lyrical, it flows..
i dont like the sound of german or polish.. its harsh and unattractive.. ha.. but i guess that goes for many languages someone many not kno much about....
dont care for the French language.. or the French at that .. in general.. just b/c of their lack of respect and snooty -ness for americans..
i like japanese .. trying to learn it.. i find it better and easier to learn then Chinese.. also think the country is much more interesting then China..
i also speak Portuguese. aside from english, from being part Brazilian.. and understand a bit of spanish.. enjoy portuguese better .. sounds nicer to the ear ..
..
damn i wrote alot
