do you have someone to help you hold him? if so, one person needs to pick him up and hold them in their arms or on their lap and you need to use both hands to pry open his mouth. have the medicine close by or already in your hand... prying his mouth open and holding him still won't hurt him. I've had to get rough with my cats to get them to take pills. It's difficult and frustrating, but as long as you are able to hold him tight and still, pry his mouth open and get the pill in the very back of his throat, close his mouth and hold it shut and rub his neck until you feel him swallow. If he just keeps his mouth shut and you don't feel him swallow, and then you let go, he'll spit it out. He'll be fine. Those little kitten bites don't hurt too bad. Scratching yes. Even if you have to do it by yourself, hold him like a baby and hold his back two feet or lay your arm across his side holding his legs down. You should be able to pry his mouth open with one hand and put the medicine in with the other-the one with your arm laying across his legs.
I hope this makes sense. Trust me, you have to be firm. It may seem like you are being rough, but he will be fine. Wrapping in a towel is a good idea if you don't have another person. Putting it in his food isn't a good idea because he might not feel like eating since his surgery and he won't get his whole dose at once. You have to get him to take it for you.

You can mix it with canned cat food, tuna or anything it really likes, but a little amount. Or like the other person said wrap it in a towel except for its head, open it's mouth, put the pill as far back as you can and hold it's mouth shut, count to 5 and let go. If you can get someone else to hold the cat and pet it while you're doing this, it would be alot easier.

I sit next to the cat, grasp it's head from behind and tilt it back(makes it harder to fight) while opening jaw with thumb and middle finger on each side. Quickly drop pill in,use your hand to close mouth and gently massage throat to cause swallowing. Wrapping kitty in a towel is helpful for many people-I never had to.

Speed is the Key here and not to worry it does not harm your cat at all... You Grab your kitten by the scruff like its mother did and tip her head back and her lower jaw will relax and holding the pill between your thumb and your second finger use the middle finger to pull the jaw down a bit more and drop the pill in the back of her throat following quickly with your second finger and before she even realizes its down her throat ..

My vet gave me a pill dispenser to administer the pills that cannot be mixed with food. You should be able to buy one from the vet or from a pet store. They come with instructions. When I have to pill the cats I wrap them firmly in a towel. The best way though is to dissolve the pill in a teaspoon of warm water and mix it with some tasty food. That is really easy if the pill doesn't taste so bad that it overpowers the food.

I have had to so this several times and there is one good way its just hard to explain so bare with me. You need two people, one person to place the cat's back against their body and hold its bottom feet together with one hand and top feet with another. It wont hurt them, this is how the vets restrain them. Then you would have to open its mouth and place the syringe inside and just squirt. You don't need to cram it down her throat, just as long as she swallows it instead of spitting it back up.

Just open his mouth and insert the pill and then take a syringe with water in it and squirt it very quickly. You may have to have help holding him if he tries to scratch you. Also you can wrap him up in a towel if he tries to scratch.

I put my cat's medicine in a spoon and he just licks it out.
You could try having someone hold the cat's body and head down but that's so traumatic. Just try the spoon. You could try putting it over the cat's food but when I did that my cat would eat all around the food...even when I stirred it up he just wouldn't do it. That's why I tried the old "spoon" routine and it worked for him. Good Luck!

if it is a liquid medication.... which is much easier.... then have another person help you by gentally holding your kitty, while you squirt in his medication------- if it is a pill, then it is a little more difficult... most likly, it will be a chewable one, in which case you are going to need bread, and tuna juice! put the pill in the bread, mush the bread around the pill, until it is like dough, take the tuna juice, and soak the bread in it... so your kitty will want to eat it up!-----if the medication is a pill, and NOT chewable... you just need to be forceful.... just remember... your doing this for his/her own good!
---Hope your kitty is okay! good luck~!

How to Give Your Cat a Pill
1. Grasp cat firmly in your arms. Cradle its head on your elbow, just as if you were giving baby a bottle. Coo confidently, "Thats a nice kitty." Drop pill into its mouth.
2. Retrieve cat from top of lamp and pill from under sofa.
3. Follow same procedure as in 1, but hold cat's front paws down with left hand and back paws down with elbow of right arm. Poke pill into its mouth with right forefinger.
4. Retrieve cat from under bed. Get new pill from bottle. (Resist impulse to get new cat.)
5. Again proceed as in 1, except when you have cat firmly cradled in bottle-feeding position, sit down on edge of chair, fold your torso over cat, bring your right hand over your left elbow, open cat's mouth by lifting the upper jaw and pop the pill in - quickly. Since your head is down by your knees, you won't be able to see what you're doing. That's just as well.
6. Leave cat hanging on drapes. Leave pill in your hair.
7. If you're a woman, have a good cry. If you're a man, have a good cry.
8. Now pull yourself together. Who's the boss here anyway? Retrieve cat and pill. Assuming position 1, say sternly, "Who's the boss here, anyway?" Open cat's mouth, take pill and...Oooops!
9. This isn't working, is it? Collapse and think. Aha! Those flashing claws are causing the chaos.
10. Crawl to linen closet. Drag back large beach towel. Spread towel on floor.
11. Retrieve cat from kitchen counter and pill from potted plant.
12. Spread cat on towel near one end with its head over long edge.
13. Flatten cat's front and back legs over its stomach. (Resist impulse to flatten cat.)
14. Roll cat in towel. Work fast; time and tabbies wait for no man-or woman.
15. Resume position 1. Rotate your left hand to cat's head. Press its mouth at the jaw hinges like opening the petals of a snapdragon.
16. Drop pill into cat's mouth and poke gently. Voila! It's done.
17. Vacuum up loose fur (cat's). Apply bandages to wounds (yours).
18. Take two aspirins and lie down. Take extended rest.
