Raphael I Bidawid, Patriarch of the Chaldeans told in an interview:

“On May 14th I was received by the Pope, together with a delegation composed of the Shiite imam of Khadum mosque and the Sunni President of the council of administration of the Iraqi Islamic Bank. At the end of the audience the Pope bowed to the Muslim holy book the Koran presented to him by the delegation and he kissed it as a sign of respect. The photo of that gesture has been shown repeatedly on Iraqi television and it demonstrates that the Pope is not only aware of the suffering of the Iraqi people, he has also great respect for Islam.”

With love in Christ.

superb question. specific, John Paul the 2d keeps to be known magnificent. he's going to be a saint! i do no longer evaluate he was very conceited. that's merely my opinion. he's a pope to be remembered. even however he became Catholic, he visited alot of remarkable styles of church homes and ladies and men with different religions, comparable to Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, and he became a Tibetan Buddhist! sure, he would have been apprehensive in some abuse scandels, although he did say sorry definitely, and as I say, the Christian and/ or Catholic way is to forgive and to settle for human beings. He expressed comprehend to others, comparable to a Soviet chief, and while he became as quickly as just about killed, he forgave the individuals. i think of, with all my heart, that the Catholics who triggered havoc are sorry for what they did. Being unfavorable in the direction of the church would desire to no longer help. this is going to easily reason better resentment to a pair females and adult males who're probability unfastened and had no longer something to do with it. individuals make errors! sense on the subject of the apostle, Paul, working example. did no longer he attempt to kill the Christians? Later, although, he repented and became into the easy of the Lord. The foremost ingredient to narrate on is, Christians and Catholics each and each love and take excitement in God.

For there to be a picture of him doing that. Such an act is supposed to represent solidarity, compassion and understanding of another religion. It is entirely possible that he would have preferred to burn the Koran, if it were up to him, but it was a publicity shot.

He was showing honor to the Islamic holy book. By kissing it and potentially endorsing his blessing upon it was a mistake though, you cannot justifiably believe in the Bible and the entire Koran, they contradict one another.

just because he is the leader of a different religion does not mean he doesn't respect other peoples religious choices. What a wise man he was. to those who follow the pope you should all take his example and love your neighbor, and whatever religion they choose.

He was trying to promote a view of tolerance, contrary to many people's views today. Even thought he believed in christianity as the one true religion, he was basically saying "we agree with your right to find your own path to salvation".

So there you go

God Bless
