It depends on your purpose.

If you are just looking for status or to impress clients, you probably need to consider the attitudes of your peers and/or clients and determine what would most impress them -- different crowds are different (and you don't want to spend your money to have your clients react like some of the negative posters here, who should be ignored).

If you are looking for the driving experience, then the Porsche is definitely a very good candidate. They are well built, and have some very good engineering points (and some people really love them to the exclusion of all others, but that is more of a religious discussion). My opinion is the that the 911 lineage is the only way to go here.

The best thing to do is find a local chapter of the Porsche club ( www.pca.org ), and go talk to people there. They know and care about the line, and will generally have some knowledgeable advice. You should also go to clubs of other cars you are considering, such as BMW club ( www.bmwcca.org ), to get a broader set of information.

Most importantly, if you really want to enjoy the car, you need to get some high performance driving skills and experience. Check out car control clinics at www.carcontrol.com, BMW club, and SCCA ( www.scca.org ). Then, check out High Performance Driver Education schools, which are run at racetracks. These are controlled environments where you can learn and enjoy the performance of your car when you get it. They are huge fun also teach you skills that can save your life in any car, by preventing an emergency from becoming an accident. Porsche also offers these schools in a package with some of their cars.

With some of this experience and those skills, and some test drives, you will then know if you want a Porsche or some other performance car.

Good Luck and enjoy whatever you get!

In my opinion a porshe is pretentious.
I picture a cheesy 80's guys saying "wanna take a ride in my porshe?"

If a two-seater, limited cargo capacity vehicle will serve your needs, yes, the Porsche is one of the finest motorcars made. With routine maintenance attended to diligently, it will last a good long time. It will also have a reasonable resale or trade-in value should you, several years down the road, decide that you need a different vehicle.

No.... not even if you can afford it. There's not much you can do with it. Buy something like....well it depends on your taste.... Oh well you should by some thing that you can buy allot of after markets stuff for..... then get it like a sweet paint job...... A poshe is so not worth in because its just not as fun and really doesn't stand out as much as you think it does.

it is wrong to purchase a porshe. You are suppose to give money or food to poor people, not buy elaborate motor vehicles.

Porsches are awesome...i think they do require a lot of maintenance though... It's not like you can save up your money and buy a porsche and be ok...you have to save up your money for a porsche..and then you have to save up your money for the repairs...if you have the money then definitely buy one, every person should have at least one porsche in a lifetime...im still waiting for mine....Santa?

If you can afford it, absolutely. It would be better to find an older one in good condition, though. You won't have to pay for the depreciation. Just think about how you would feel cruising around in that thing! Go for it!
