I'm a catholic and I went to catholic school and at some point we learned about all the mainstream religions, except paganism. I'ts been bugging me since I saw that episode of the simpsons with the reverand and the priest and they said you know we should stop fighting since we have so much in common because we both believe in jesus and hate the pagans. Just curious.

"Paganism" is a broad term. "Paganism" in the most commonly used current sense refers to a range of spiritual paths which are Earth centered -- involving their members living in harmony with the Earth and observing its cycles. These are often Neopagan religions based on the deities, symbols, practices, seasonal days of celebration and other surviving components of ancient religions, which had been long suppressed. For example:

* The Druidic religion is based on the faith and practices of the ancient Celtic professional class;

* Followers of Asatru adhere to the ancient, pre-Christian Norse religion;

* Wiccans trace their roots back to the pre-Celtic era in Europe.

* Other Neo-pagans follow ancient Roman, Greek, Egyptian and other traditions.

To patronne06 - by the way, you are incorrect. Many Pagans honor nature because we see it as PART OF the Divine. What you call "worshipping the creation", we call worshipping the Creator.

If you're seriously interested, I am sure there are a lot of pagan sites you can visit. For a good overview on ALL religions, check out the book, "The Joy of Sects"... it's got a great write-up on paganism and some of the new age stuff, and it's non-judgmental.

Try to keep an open mind when you read and don't spend your time looking for people to convert or be mad at, and you may learn something.

Peace

First, by taking your doctrine of the church from a Simpson's episode, there's no wonder why your so confused.
Most pagan god's are reflective of nature and the worship of the elements. There have also been other almost mythological god's but they have been interpreted in a variety of ways that is usually suited to fit that particular person. There is no evidence and no credance to their claims, just assumptions.

Depending on the form of paganism, there are many different types. Wicca believes in the Goddess and the God, as do most Pagan religions i believe. Also, each person has their own personal deity, which is chosen from the pantheon of their choice. Some choose to worship Greek gods, Egyptian, you name it

There are many different religions inside of the Pagan religion. So to ask who there God is is like asking who is the God to the people in the World.

See the truth is you need to be more specific in the question. It could be Gai, Oden, ect. ect.

Within the Pagan religions there are many different religions. Most of them have there own God, Gods, Goddess, Goddesses, dieties, or many other forms of a God.

Pagans are polytheistic, not mono...

Try a yahoo search on Paganism...it's hard to really explain in all in depth on here.

I converted from catholicism to Wiccan, and it was the best choice I ever made! (not that I'm saying you should convert, you believe what you believe!)

Hope you get to learn something reading about Paganism! I'm glad you're open to learning about other religions!

I definatly imagine that some deities DO call to three those who refuse to pay interest. when you do opt for to pay interest, I regularly listen that it took them a lengthy time period to pay interest and later appeared decrease back at their existence and said all the circumstances that deity tried to get their interest till now they finally did pay interest... so in accordance to that, i could say there's a reliable style of those who only in no way get the message in any respect. That reported, i'm no longer certain i'm able to say that i have heard a "calling" from the deities i have chosen to artwork with, and for this reason I in no way incredibly declare to have a "consumer/ess," very few operating relationships. -Scarlet

my mom is mainly pagan, but i dont really know. there are a whole lot. but a misconseption (sp) about pagans and wiccans is that they worship the devil. a pagan community i visit alot has their mailboxes mashed in alot by rednecks who assume w/o understanding. christians are closer to worshiping satan, pagans dont even believe in satan. i think that satanists are a version of christianity because christians are the only religion that acnowlege satan. people just need to be more accepting of dif religions though. its not only the cristians who do the bashing. alot of pagans ive met do it too. thats why i hate religion. its just another label. i cant fit into one box, and no one should have to. its just another clique. think about how in highschool, the "preps" and "goths" shut eachother out and/or bash them in some way or another. jsut because they are different. religions are the same way. the christians bad talk the wiccans, and the wiccans bad talk the christians...just because they are different and they cant accept that. and that is basicaly against their religion. many ppl say they accept it, and act like it too, but many are still uncomfortable with it in some way or another. i myself still have a few lessons to learn in that area. but i respect you for trying to learn about religions dif from your own.

The term "pagan" can mean different things. If you'd like a list of all the non-Judeo-Christian gods, you should start with Hinduism.
