you should tell her there's nothing to worry about, even if he's not responding to her letters in time, she shouldnt worry because he's in jail and he's doing his time and paying for whatever thing he did wrong, she'll be fine as long as she remains faithful

She should find some activities which keep her busy, get on with life, and make something of herself. While we don't know if the guy is a chronic offender, or is jail prone, she is going to have to work out how to be alone for a while.
In the meantime, can she get a job, volunteer, become active in productive groups or activities in which her friend can join later when he is available? There is no reason to sit still at this point. Building for the future is her best option.
Relationship breaks don't always lead to breakups. Sometimes they make things stronger.

I feel for her completely! I'm in love with a guy that was in jail and now he's in Iraq! There's no way that I can think of to get ahold of him. I miss him so much and I can't stop thinking about him. I hope nothing happens to him. Anyway, tell her NOT to break up with him. Things might get better. :)

If it is meant to be it will, I have been waiting for my boyfriend for over a year and he still won't be home for about 8 months!!
I cry a lot, it is stressfull to miss someone so much and to want to help them but be useless. Sometimes they don't write out of just pure depression. He probably really needs her support, but we can only do so much if they aren't willing to meet somewhere in the middle. Tell her to do whatever her heart tells her, and to be sure that whatever decision she makes that she won't regret it.

well first of all she needs to think about if she still wants him after he's been in jail for what ever reason. and well since he's in for a year she has a long to think about what she wants to do. just tell her to relax and take things slow. she'll kno what to do when the time is right.

Wait for a guy who is in jail...is she nuts? Did he think of HER when he did what he did to land in there in the first place - I think not.
Take a break.

i would thiink that the best thing to do is for her to break up with him even though she wouldn't want to do this but it sounds like the only thing she can do then maybe when he gets out she can hook back up with him
