you can tell noone has ever delt with this situation and some watch to much tv sugar will crystalize and gum up your tank it will stop up all your gas lines if it gets through the injectors with out clogging them up it will get into the cylinder walls and harden and cause the enging to lock up you can tell if it has sugar in it by checking the filler tube see if there is any sugar or any brown looking crystals in the tube gas and the gas vapors will turn sugar brown if you dont see any of this you should be o.k but it might be a good idea to have it checked this could cost you alot of money

Hi Cindy, I am one of your friends on your 360 page! I would recommend that the fuel tank be removed and cleaned as Sugar could cause you problems as I know it did in older cars for sure. It is possible that the newer fuel filters and such might trap a majority if it but you will down the road have problems and that's not good. There should have been signs that sugar was poured into the tank by the filler neck but if this is all about "rumors" then its up to you as what to do then, I myself would have the tank inspected for the sugar! Some newer cars do have an **inspection** hole under the rear seat of the car. If yours has this then it is very east to check! If you or some friend does it be careful for any sparks as you know what could happen.

If you need further info, email me.
Good Luck Hon!

Mikey

PS, I would also make a Police report on this incase you have to try and find out who did it and for insurance reasons.

PSS, This comment is for **Cowboy bill**, First off here is what you have listed on your own page!> I am so full of myself....that I sit around and give my two-bit advise on the internet.
Shoot me.

LMAO, And you still have the nerve to say you were an adjuster for the insurance industries plus a teacher for auto repair!

I think you must have to have on some very high hip waders to get home at night after all this bull S***. But thats only one mans opinion!

I had to have a 460 replaced in a 1970 Ford torino due to Sugar in the fuel tank so there is no one here that will ever tell me that it is not possible! BUT with todays cars being designed allot differently maybe it iant as likely to happen but thats a very big chance the person is taking if they have reason to think someone did pour sugar in their tank.
As Firefighter said! Many a motor have had to be rebuilt or replaced due to sugar in a persons gas tank.
Life can be so interesting! Good Luck again Cindy, Call a service garage for another opinion too! just to back me and others up on this one...

First sugar doesn't readily disolve into gas.

Second, the sugar that does disolve burns quite easily. After all, we burn sugar in our bodies for energy, so can an ICE (internal combustion engine)

Third, the sugar that doesn't disolve sits in the bottom of the tank waiting to disolve and does not clog the fuel filter.

Fourth, getting a large amount of sugar into a gas tank, past the little fuel flap that the gas nozzle enters past is a rather messy undertaking. Do you see spilled sugar around your gas cap? I''m guessing the answer is no.

Fifth, "sugar in the tank" is a way in which unscrupulous repair shop have been bilking people out of their money for a long time. to the point that it has become part of "common knowledge".

Sixth, as the first poster said, the Myth Busters put an entire bag of sugar into a gas tank and the engine ran fine. In fact, the engine ran fine and then they let is sit over night and it started up and ran fine the next day.

If you car is running poorly yo umay have "bad gas" or you may have an actuall problem but it aint "sugar in the tank".

Nothing except clog the filters, possibly choke the fuel pump assy.
PS -- to the 'mechanic' that is trying to tell you it will ruin an engine --- you will NEVER work on mine! Sugar in the gas is an urban legend. Marathon Oil co. conducted a massive research project on this subject, going as far as POURING two pounds of raw sugar into an intake at open throttle until the engine stopped. There was NO internal damage found by a team of mechanics after the unit was disassembled.

Just siphon out the gas. About all it will really do is glaze your spark plugs and require you to change them. Other then that, not alot can happen. Getting the old gas out will get the sugar out of the tank that has settled to the bottom. Thank the Deity they didn't put salt in there.

It doesn't do anything, they did a "Myth Busters" episode on it on the Discovery Channel. They dumped a bag of sugar in a gas tank and the car burned through the whole thing just fine.

I would have the tank drained, just to be on the safe side.
