You still have a good chance of getting him/her back! Most birds actually don't stray too far from home during their first week. They usually stay within a 1 mile radius during this first week so if you really care about your bird, get out there in that 1 mile radius and starting calling him and he may respond. After that though, he'll probably stray further. Hopefully, he's very tame so he's more likely to come to people.
Set his cage outside with food and water. He WILL get hungry, that's for sure.
He's probably enjoying himself at the moment with all the wide open space, but soon that tummy of his will be very empty and he won't like it one bit. Once he gets hungry enough, he will most likely come to people for food. You are the one who has fed him, so naturally, he knows that humans are a resource for food and water. This is where flyers will come in handy. If you dont find him or he cant find you, he will find someone else's shoulder to land on, i can almost guarantee it (if he's pretty tame, that is). If you're lucky, they will take him in and care for him. So set up flyers so people know that it's your bird, otherwise they may just keep him.
Also, there are predators out there, so something may happen to your bird, though I honestly think the chances of you getting him back are much higher.
I lost my own parrot once and I live in Alaska. My backyard is a wilderness lol. The thing that got him back to me are the flyers. He eventually got so thirsty, he saw a woman with a water bottle and flew straight to her. She freaked out at first of course, but she took him home and cared for him. Then she saw my flyer at Safeway and called my number. It made my day!
My brother also lost his parakeet and she flew around the neighborhood for a week. He spent the whole week, day and night, looking for her. Then he went outside one day and saw her sitting on a fence at a playground. She was so hungry, she knew he had food, so she let him take her home to eat.
And believe me, once you get your bird back, he will never want to go outside again! They learn that it's harsh out there with other birds competing and pecking at them, dogs, cats, other animals, no food, no water, weather can be terrible (he will hate rain)!
Most people will just give up when they lose their bird, but if you care enough for him, you might get him back. It's work though. Also, call the local animal control. They catch stray animals.
Here are some sites that might help. They got GREAT tips.

There's a lot more, just do a search.
The trick is, is not to give up. I know how it feels to lose a parrot. It's different from losing a dog or cat, because it just seems so much less likely you'll ever get them back. But it's more than possible. Good luck!

Ouch. I'm sorry that had to happen to you!
Most birds, especially if they've not been clipped, will travel as far as 10 miles from their home. One African Grey was found 40 miles from his home and was lost for over a year before he was found. Don't give up hope!
Escaped birds have a 4 day span of time where they do okay. It takes 4 days before a bird really starts to get hungry. In your case, I'd put ads in newspapers, and post as many 'lost' ads as I could. If your bird had a leg band, don't forget to keep that off the 'lost' poster. People can be quite rude and try to convince you that they have their bird, when they really don't. They usually say the bird is injured and needs vet help, but in truth they just want your money.
I'll post some sites, including 'parrots 911'. It's a site where people can post their lost birds for free. It's also national.
I hope you find your guy! I'll post a site that shows you how to find your bird. **Hugs**

Sorry for your loss. It will probably go looking for food. Look around fruit trees if there are any around you.Believe this or not I had 2 Nanday conures escape.4 months later I went to feed the rest of the birds and there they were fit as ever. Imagine that. Never did hear or see them in the neighborhood. Check around the neighborhood. Put up flyer's. Someone is probably feeding it.
