I have decided that I am probably not going to go to school this semester(It’s not what you think) but I have already applied for financial aid. Is there anyway to cancel it. If so, is there some huge fee or something?

Usually if you don't register for school they don't cut a check to the school and thus don't cut a check to you for the remainder. So all you have to do to cancel it is not register.

Financial Aid applications are good for 1 full year, so if you decide to go back next semester or in the summer you do not need to reapply, just verify with the financial aid office that you were awarded for the year and there are no holds preventing you from registration.

There is no fee, and usually no penalty financial-aid wise.

However, if you applied for a loan with a private lender, you might need to call them to make sure they don't send you any money.

If any funding agency, public or private, does cut you a check, you legally MUST contact them immediately to have the mistake corrected. It'll be a mistake on their end, but your responsibility to ensure the check isn't cashed and the money is not credited to you in their system.

There is no huge fee, or any fee at all unless you have already signed the contract and received the check. Contact the school and tell them that you would like to withdraw your application. This happens all the time. They are used to it.
