If you are concerned by his inactivity, please, take him to the vet. he may not be sick, but then again.. be certain.
He will be considered a senior in maybe just 2 more years..
Sometimes, our dogs require a different diet, and it's best that the vet tell you what your dogs needs, rather than one of us here. I use pro-plan senior for my girls, but your vet may suggest something more appropriate for your dog.
There are many reasons why he may just be more inclined to be lazy, other then just being lazy itself..

There are many reasons your baby could be feeling sleepy. It could be an illness, like constipation or depression. (Believe it or not, but dog's can get depressed.)

No one here can diagnose your dog's problem, but what I can tell you is that you need to take him to a vet. You see there could be something very serious wrong with him, and he is trying to tell you... and who knows maybe it is an easily fixed problem. Don't risk your pet's life because you want to ask on yahoo answers and think someone can give you a magical cure and diagnoses. No one can tell you from only knowing the symptom "he's tired" .

My advice to you is get out a phone book... look up a vet... call around quickly and get quotes for a visit. Get the cheapest quote, and take him in. But HURRY... if you wait for some of these crazies on here to answer, you may need a miracle. Good luck to you and I hope it is an easy quick fix!

multiply the age of your dog by 7 to get his "doggy age". So 7X4=28. Dogs, like people, mature hopefully by age 28 and slow down a bit. The dog isnt likely ill. He would have something more than lethargy (laying around, no energy) if he were really sick. My husky is gonna be 2 on the 9th and she sleeps like.....20 hours a day. She's REAL lazy- but very healthy.

Also, neutering/spaying a dog will slow them down a bit since they dont have that sexual drive pushing them to seek out buddies.

Sometimes they start mellowing out at that age, take baby for walks and play with him more. He is not old in dog years he is only 28. Dogs don't start getting old until 6 or 7.

He's 28....
Take him to the vet maybe something is causing him to feel lazy. He shouldn't be acting like this at 4 years old.
Dog years are 7 to our 1 year

Has this occured "all-of-a-sudden?" He it has, then you might want to take him to the vet. It could be a sign of some sort of illness or if he has gradually been becoming more sleepy, it could be he is mellowing out. That's what my dog did. She was hyper in her "puppy years" but now she's more calm. But it never hurts for your dog to have a check-up, get updated on his shots, etc.

he's only 28 in dog years... make sure he has plenty of water on these hot days as dogs get dehydrated fast in the heat with no water... ummm if he is panting and hanging out his tongue a lot.. that's a clear indication... keep him in doors when it's 100 degrees out and take him to the vet first chance you get.. something else might be wrong that only your vet can determine
