Because once you are in the car and it is going fast down the road and it is going all over the road, the driver may not listen to you if they are drunk.

Tell your teen to call you and you will pick him or her up, no questions asked, if he or she suspects the driver might be drunk.

If your teenager isn't responsible enough to recognize this then you shouldn't allow him or her to go out at all.

Here is a video for you:

Your insurance company or local police office may have information on the topic as well.

Ok i see you are a very concerned individual
and I am glad that you are

Collect some pictures of car wrecks
and say to them see this picture
this was someone I loved

and when they ask who
say this is the future of someone I care about
who may get into a horrible situation if they
get in the car with a drunk driver.

For drunk drivers have no compassion
for them self or anyone else
for they have issues they them self have to
heal from.

And then look them in the eyes and say
please promise me you will not be so blinded
by drunk drivers, because I love you
and I do not want you to be just a memory.

note: perhaps the police dept will have these photos on hand
explain what you need them for and obtain a copy
or ask where you can obtain copies

I'm not sure if there is a way to get a teen to understand this. I got into a car with a drunk driver when I was 16 (of course I didn't realize that she was drunk at the time). Yes, we got into an accident. I went through the windshield and came right back in. Lucky for me I did not get a single cut. I lost my memory for that entire day. I only know what people have told me about what happened. It wasn't until recently that I have learned that all of my neck pain and headaches have been caused from that accident. I'm 39 now, so it's been 23 years since it happened, but I'm feeling it now.

I think the best thing to do is to keep preaching to your teen. If he or she hears it enough, hopefully they'll think twice before getting into a car with someone who has been drinking. Good luck!

Take a raw egg. Explain that this is their skull. Now drop the egg, don't throw it, just a straight drop, onto the floor. Explain that this is what will happen if you drink and drive. You have no response time while drunk. If you really want to do some research, in the early '70's someone made a film with 18-20 year olds. They had a group test drive a course. Then, they had a keg party ( the participants knew in advance what this was for, to show the delayed responses after drinking ) after 2 1/2 hours of drinking, the group retook the test drive. ' Nuf said.

The morgue idea is a good one - or the ICU - or a rehab hospital - or have them talk with somebody who has actually been in one of those accidents. The closer the experience is to the teen, the more likely they are to listen. I've never driven drunk or with a drunk because five of my high school classmates got drunk on the last day of school and went for a "ride". They rolled the car and one of the boys was killed. He was to graduate the following week. The rest missed their graduation too - they were hospitalized for quite a while.

This sounds like two different scenarios.
If you are asking about what do you do once you are in the car and the drunk behind the wheel is driving like an a$$....
Tell the driver you want them to stop driving immediately and use your cell phone to call for assistance. If possible get out of the car as soon as you can (stop light, stop sign, etc.) and don't get back in it - period. Call to have someone pick you up. You may not get another chance !

I remember in High School we watched videos in health class and drivers ed that showed some crazy accidents that had drunk drivers involved...scared the hell out of me, I will never drive drunk or drive with someone who is. Maybe you could check on the internet for pictures or stories...

Everybody knows it's wrong to drive drunk but people still do it because they deviate from societies set norm.

So society must curb these offenders by setting rules that disallow these things. But it's easier said then done right?

Humans have to learn by experience so the best way is to show them how gruesome an accident can be, just like in driver's ed.

If you know someone either at a fire station or police station that might have pictures of an accident scene of a teenage drunk driver, with everything and everyone still there laying around the scene-see if they will let your teenager look at the pictures- that will "sober" them up real quick! It worked for my teenager that knew all! - Try it.

That's a tough question and one every parent wished they had the answer to. A friend of mine was killed in an automobile accident 2 weeks ago and she was 31 years old and riding with someone who was drunk. They hit a board fence and flipped twice. Pieces of the board fence went through the car and through them. The car was destroyed and two lives lost. Four children lost their mother. I went to the site of the accident and it was devastating, saw the vehicle and I went to the viewing and to the funeral. It was awful. I myself have ridden with people that had been drinking and drove under the influence when I was young. I was always scared to call my parents, afraid of the lecture or punishment I would get. Promise your child that there will be no lectures and that he or she won't get in trouble if they call you but will be in trouble if they don't and you find out. I swore to myself after my friend's funeral that I would never lecture my children if they called me because they or who ever they were with was too drunk to drive, there would be no questions, I would just be thankful that they called me.
