Start as soon as they are in your belly! :)
It's excellent for your child.
I speak French to my sons and their father speaks Spanish to them. Later, it will be a plus for your child.
They were never mixed up in the languages and now (2 and 7 years old), are fluent in French (mother tongue), they make sentences in Spanish, and they know many words in English!

Speaking both English and Spanish will be beneficial as it will make the child bilingual. There are many different ways to approach this however, which ever way you choose will help. You should start as soon as the child is born. When the child enters school, at first they will have some slight trouble, but will pick up very quickly. If you want your child to be completely fluent in both languages, they need to hear both languages up until they are 8 years old. This is the critical stage for languages.
Good luck.

From Birth is best. I've heard that one parent should speak one language and the other parent the other language.

Sometimes the child will mix the two languages in one sentence but that will work itself out.

How lucky for your baby to learn a second language at the best age possible!

My husband is bilingual in french and English (i can only speak English) and he spoke french to our daughter since she was in the womb and continues to speak both french and English to her.
We have also bought her books and videos that are in french to help reinforce the language.
She can response to simple requests when spoken in either English or french. I have heard that it is easier for a child to learn different languages when they are taught as babies.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Additional info:
For the ignorant person who answered the question under me, it is wonderful that people learn other languages other then English, there are more countries in this world then just America!
I'm Canadian which means our national language is FRENCH and ENGLISH!
I always have wished that I was fluent in other languages, not just English.

Yes! I actually just read about a study in one of my baby magazines about children learning 2 languages. It's an awesome thing to do, and the earlier you start, the better.

Yes, I think it is inportant to teach your child both english and spanish, if you know it your self. You should start when the baby is born.

Yes! Start from the very beginning. Your child will easily be able to sort it out. Theire minds are like little sponges when they are so young. Your child will benefit greatly from being bilingual!
