The most likely thing to happen would be for the US to mothball base facilities in that country. Hire Iraqi contractors to keep the infrastructure maintained and about once a year hold a joint US-Iraqi military exercises using these facilities.
This gives us and the Iraqis the benefits of having bases in the country without the fiscal and political costs of doing so.

We have a very large military base in the middle east. It alone could wipe out the whole area. We call it Israel. There is no need to spend the money to install a smaller base in Iraq when we have such a well trained one in Israel.
Did you notice that the US is doing a troop build up in iraq. I think Iran days are limited.

That's simple... total chaos... In Iraqi history, their society only knows political unrest. They have been in civil war many times over and they still haven't learned to get along. All they know is violence. With the Iraqi SF "Security Forces" weak as it is, they will lose control of the country in a matter of monthes. I have personally seen them in action and when the first bullets came flying, they ran away. They are ill equiped, ill trained, and not dependable. If this happens, our tax dollars really went to waste.

americans do not need to have strategical military bases all ofer the world, but in most cases they do, Irak is far far away to represent any strategical objective but i think that the americans are building bases as we speek, ecause they want to guard the oil from that country.

It might look like they not are trying to control the country, or have intentions of staying indefinitely.
