I WAS READING IN LUKE 11 VRS 27-28 27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."
28He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." now Jesus tells this lady this and i see may catholics out there that do not follow and obey the word of God. Why do many catholics still believe in the virgin mary she can't help you at all. But they don't live the life that God wants them to live. exodus 20 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments. if we can't have images why do catholics still look at the virgin mary

Firstly, I am not a papist. however I am Orthodox and myself pray to the Mother of God and venerate her as she is worthy of honour and love.
Please note that Christ does NOT say that His mother is not blessed, but merely chides the crowd for considering her blessed for the wrong reasons. The Theotokos Mary is to be called blessed and venerated because she, more than any believer since her, "believed the word of God and obeyed it".
When the Archangel Gabriel announced to her that she would carry the Son of God in her womb, she immediately bowed herself to her Master's Will, calling herself the handmaiden of the Lord.

Think on this before you condemn those who honour the Virgin Theotokos. Firstly, God Himself chose her of all women to bear His Son and I am pretty sure that He did not choose her because she was a spiritually mediocre woman. Secondly, If the Theotokos had not bowed before the Will of the Lord, she would not have become impregnated with our Saviour, as God would not have coerced her or forced his Ways upon her, and we would not be saved.

As for "graven images", continue to read forward from the Old Testament passages you quote. Not long after God commands that man not make graven images He actually COMMANDS that they make images of Cherubim to place over the Ark.(Exod 25:18) Do protestants believe that God contradicts Himself? He does not. Not all images are forbidden.

Holy Theotokos save us and pray for our wretchedness!

The way I interpreted your question was that many Catholics worship Mother Mary and that they shouldn't. In one part of your question and statement you wrote "exodus 20 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." I took this as you believe that Catholics look to Mother Mary as an idol. You are interpreting "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." , to mean that Mother Mary isn't to be worshiped but it depends on how you look at it. He never said she wasn't blessed. Prior to Jesus be quoted as saying Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God He was talking about driving out a demon, then starting at Luke11:32 21 "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which a man trusted and divides up the spoils. Eventually it says.. and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.
Then the woman yelled out "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you." I believe Jesus responded the way He did was because he just gave this big speech and wanted to get his point across because what was happening, even though this woman gave Him a compliment it wasn't the point of what was going on. I believe It doesn't mean Mother Mary is not blessed and can not be worshiped with grace and I do not believe Catholics worship her as an idol. My God would be thankful that his Mother was regarded with such respect after all, thou shall honor thy father and mother :))

I am Catholic. We are taught that praying for the intervention of saints is fine, it was done by Jews and prayer have been answered. There is not a good American English translation...worship really means to HONOR, do you realize that? Judges in English courts "Your Worship."

This is protestant argument. According to the church, the statues are symbols meant to remind you of saints. This is fine is it not? If we tell some protestants that we are not honoring the statue but the person it represents they are not appeased. They can't seem to tell the difference. Did you even research what the Roman Catholic church teaches about this before writing your question. Your wording shows you to be prejudiced. I say, reword it, I can make a much better arguement. But, I still can't beat the church. How many times do you think of God's mother or St. Paul while at a protestant church?

ADDITION: It is no longer a simple thing to become a saint. At times you may have been able to slip in. Now, miracles are required by your intervention with God:

"You say in your book that while we live we are able to pray for each other, but afterwards when we have died, the prayer of no person for another can be heard. . . . But if the apostles and martyrs while still in the body can pray for others, at a time when they ought still be solicitous about themselves, how much more will they do so after their crowns, victories, and triumphs?" (Against Vigilantius 6 [A.D. 406]).

When the word worship is used in the original texts, there are several different words used to differentiate between different treatments.

To be an IDOL it must itself be the object of worship.

First I would like to say that we do NOT worship or pray to blessed Mary.We do however ask that she pray with us and for us.The beatitude of verse 28 should not be interpreted as a rebuke of the mother of Jesus; rather it emphasizes that attentiveness to Gods word is more important than biological relationship to Jesus.see Luke 2:35 and Luke 8:21.

i'm a catholic and a common misconception is that catholics worship the Virgin... this isn't true. however, we do give her credit where credit is due. this is because of all the women in the world, she was the only one worthy of being the mother of God. God isn't jealous of this respect we pay her. as far as any prayers we say to her... they are said to her so that she may pray for us in Heaven. Why would God be jealous of us honoring or looking at Mary when we are not placing her at the same level as God and we are not worshipping her?

when jesus was brought into the equation, the rules changed...
he payed for our sins...god told us in the new testament that the 780 or however many rediculious rules theree were in the old testament were out the door...he was gonna make it easy on us...
love me most ....and treat everyone else like you want to be
treated...that coveres everything...all the by laws of all the 12----churches...[12 apostles] are only trivial man things...read what it says in red...the jesus part...[[[sorry dont mean to be an ars]]]. : ]
its easy to get caught up in the man part of the bible... if thats what you do...
mary to the catholics is a mediator...like all the saints...its like get in a good word for me im just a simple imperfect person...
its not any more complicated than that...

Because they are blinded by the truth. They would rather have their own way of doing things rather than hear Gods word. I have often wondered this very same question myself. How many people are being led astray, just by this one thing. They claim they don't worship it, that it just helps them to remember what Jesus done for them. I don't need a cross to help me remember what Jesus did for me, because he lives in my heart and mind. I wonder how God feels to know that people have made a replica of his sons execution. I know if my child was a well liked ,well known person and he was murdered with a knife,gun,crucified..........I would NOT want people wearing or displaying the reminder of the way he died. Seems kinda heartless to me, or at least like they are mocking Jesus.

Some people are brought up in religious traditions all of their life and it is all they know. For example, the apostle Paul was brought up in the Law of Moses and grew up in the traditions of his fathers. However, he was only religious and had no connection to God whatsoever. You see that alot in the church today. This is why some people can not discern the truth. They have the Word of God, but they do not have the connection to God to live it out. If you are truly connected to God, you will walk in truth and understanding. Also, you will be able to obey God.

The Bible DOES talk about the Mystical Body of Christ. Do members of Christ's Mystical Body cease to be members of that body once they die? So, if I ask a fellow member on Earth to "intercede" for me (which IS in the Bible), what's stopping a fellow member in Heaven from doing the same? One bread, one body, and Mary is a member of that body as well. With regard to giving her honor as the Mother of Christ, it was Mary who said herself, "All generations shall call be blessed."

As far as "graven images" are concerned, does your Church have a cross and/or a picture of Jesus (and other prominent figures in the Bible) in it? Perhaps, this is a good time to remove the beam in your own eye.

The catholic religion tends to be somewhat double standard in what they preach and what the do. If you study religions you will understand that Catholics are told not to worship "false Gods" however they have more pagen ceremonies in their hour long mass than the pagens do. I will not elaborate on that statement because I am not here to trample anyone's religion. I suggest if you wish to find out more about pagen ceremonies and how the correspond to Catholic ceremonies look it up.
