On the street corner I saw a Muslim woman dressed entirely in black robes and scarves from her head to her toes. Next to her was a hassidic Jewish man dressed in a black suit, with jacket, black hat, and had a full beard. They were dressed this way despite it being 100 degrees outside. I bet those Amish are out in their full attire as well, sweating away.

Hi!

Well, it is the material that differs. In the summer, you wear material that is thinner and lighter, and wear heavier/thicker materials for the winter. Also, in the summer, many women will wear tank-tops and shorts under their abayas/burkas. And in the winter, wear long sleeves and jeans under it. However, winter's are not too cold in the Middle East.

Because it's their traditional garb.
The priest ay my church had a heat stroke last week due to his wearing all his layers of clothing.

Think about way back when...........................................in the "cowboy days".
Look at what both men and women wore !
My husband and I were just talking about that the other day.
We both agreed, there's no way we could have survived.

Pagan here, dressed in my sacred grubbies -- shorts, tshirt, flipflops -- who says we can't do summer or casual!

Of course, for really serious ritual, I tend to be skyclad...
