I say that it's a matter of whether you can really let go of the cat or not. I mean think about if - if u end up marrying your boyfriend you're going to look @ a life w/o cats FOREVER. Whereas if u and ur boyfriend break up, u might regret that you got rid of your cat. If you can't find a friend or someone semi-close to you that can take the cat - & maybe u can visit it or come get it back etc. Then you might want to just keep the cat & forget the guy. And does your boyfriend realize that he can get allergy shots etc. so that he can be around the cat?? He should go the mile for you.

Can there be a compromise? If you can make a pen for the cat outdoors, that may work. How much resentment will you feel if you get rid of the cat permanently and then the relationship doesn't work out? This just recently happened to my daughter, and she is very sad she gave up her two cats. Now she and the "boyfriend" are no longer together, so it was definitely a mistake on her part.

I am also in a similar situation. If you think that your boyfriend is the one and you have been together for a while and you can get your cat a great home I would say do it. My husband and I have been trying numerous things to combat his cat allergies but nothing seems to be working. Our problem is we can not find a great home for them. My problem is that I feel guilty to give them away, but your life and loved ones are also important.

I'll tell you what. I would rethink moving in with that bf if you have to come on a forum to ask that question. Tell your bf you come with cats. It's a package deal. If he doesn't want to go get an allergy shot, if you aren't that important to him, your doubts about him are well founded. You could give up the cat, move in with the bf, and six months from now find yourself without a bf OR your cat. This guy sounds darned irritating to me.

I had the same heartwrenching problem with my dog and my boyfriend. In the end, I opted to place the dog with a family that truly wanted him and that I knew would take care of him through a personal correspondence with his breed's rescue group. I made this decision because I am still young and am not at home all the time to be with him, so it was the best decision all around. Look at ALL factors, here, and ask yourself: if the two of you broke up, could you forgive yourself for letting your kitty go?

Ask your boyfriend to make the sacrifice. My step-mom did when she moved in with us. She was allergic to cats but she didn't make us get rid of our two kitties. She was understanding about it. Hopefully, your boyfriend loves you enough to love your 8-yr old friend no matter how much suffering he is in.

I would say give him to a good home. I my love cats but being in your situation you have to think to yourself who do you love more. You can always see if a friend or family member will take the cat so you can still see him or her

First of all see if there is any kind of medication your b/f can take. Also you could make it an outside cat, but honestly you shouldn't have to choose and it's not fair, I Love my b/f, but if he made me choose between him and my dogs, I'd boot him out the door.

Let's see: eight years of love and devotion from Kitty; how many years of love & devotion from bf?
Bf can be treated for his allergies, you know; they have shots for it which are taken periodically.
A guy who loves you will not ask you to give up your companion of 8 years; he'll take the shots.
