It is weekend when the government suspends taxes on back to school supplies and clothes to give poorer families a break.

States and cities do this to boost the local economy by increasing spending. Usually, there are limits on it that focuses it on things like clothes and school supplies. You probably can't buy a tax free car or even a big screen tv. In DC it doesn apply to items over $100.
