I am a Christian who was born and raised mostly in the States. I recently moved again and I have been wondering why Americans are not so religious anymore. From what I have seen most do not even care. I care very much about my religion and I love to go to Church every Sunday and holiday. But most people I have met found it a bore and something they HAD to do. Why? I just don't understand. Can somebody explain? I am only going to except serious answers!

I also love the Lord and consider it a privilege to be able to go to church every Sunday, Wednesday, and whenever else during the week. I think Americans as a whole are not involved in religious activities is manyfold. Firstly, we are a selfish community of people that think nothing is more important than ourselves. Second, I think that people have lost sight of the fact that this country thrives on religious opportunity and we've become apathetic to enjoying that freedom, kind of like voting. Thirdly, we live in a fallen world, not many as fallen as the USA, so God is not a word people are comfortable saying much less envoke the name of Jesus Christ. Go to a gathering and say Allah, Buddah, Krishna, then say Jesus, and see which brings the most violent/verbal reaction. God bless you, I'll see you in Heaven, and I hope this helped.

I think you just have a misperception.

The US has been pretty steady regarding Christian religiosity over the past 40 years.

In 2001 religiosity hit a unusual peak because of the tragedy, so if that's the time you are comparing to today, then yes, America is a little less religious. When major tragedies or calamities happen people tend to reach out for religion more (during tragedies they also reach out more for sex, alcohol and drugs, but I guess that's another topic). But once the tragedy ends, or the trauma subsides, most people get back to their normal way of living within a year or a few years at most.

I think from my experience that people are disillusioned with religion. There had been a lot of bad, but perhaps honest publicity on churches over the last decade. With technology enhancements people may still practice the 10 commandments, but don't fell compelled to go to church unless they have hit rock bottom. Even then there are chat rooms to help people seek solstice. It all depends on the persons past experience with religion as well. There will be no cut and dry answer to this one. Just long drawn out philosophical discussions. Good luck.

I'm not sure if what you say is true or not, but if it is, it just means that the USA is finally catching up to other highly educated societies, which have much lower levels of belief and church attendance than the USA. The interesting question is why much of the US population has been much slower to question the authority of the church and the scriptures than those of other developed countries. The answer is probably complex, and has to do with such things as the uneven spread of higher education, as well as cultural and historical factors

Are you alone in church? I doubt it. Maybe you're just meeting the kind of people who aren't as into it as you. Read the questions on here for a while and you'll see that there are a lot of people who are very religious. Not assuming that you are any particular religion and just want to see if people still believe in something.

Spirituality is a personal characteristic. It is best served in the mind of the person experiencing it and I don't feel it requires structure or interpretation by a person allegedly appointed or called by the Almighty. A person can be spiritual and keep it within their own home, where it truly belongs, rather than inflicting it upon our system of government. This affliction is quite common in the U.S., which renders your assertion that Americans aren't religious moot.

There has been a gradual decline of churched Christians.
Many people consider themself Christians-----but it is cultural thing, not really a faith thing. We have become a very materialistic country.
People make choices to or not to go to church.
Also there are more immigrents from countries that aren't Christian.
Also........satin is alive and well in the USA

I think you answered your own question with one word "RELIGIOUS" not a good investment, returns are small hypocrisy runs ramp id, money money money and control, the only God the church knows today, some people are starting to wake up they are finding God in quiet serene places, not controlled places of worship, it really is not hard to understand at all it is simply called waking up and seeking God in the right places at no cost to the investor.

Many of them are still active in their faith, but it's the object of faith that has changed. Many of the Pagans -- Wiccans, Druids Asatruar -- that I know are very devout and put a lot of time and effort into working in their community to make their places of worship and the people who attend ritual in them safe from harm both from within and from without. Many also work in the larger community on a weekly and even daily basis, living their faith through aid to the poor and preservation and improvement of the environment we all share.

More and more people want to live without rules or morality so they are less religious. This has repeatedly happened throughout human history. Remember just because others are rejecting the blessings of religion you don't need to change to conform to their ways.

because christianity has nothing to do with God and it's shoved down our throats and it turns people away from God and causes them not to believe their divine origin with lies such as hell and original sin. it preaches intolerance to other faiths because they think that everyone is wrong except them. it is absolutely unspiritual to have pride such as that. they deny the fact that there are many different ways to experience God's love. if christianity would end, we could all evolve spiritually at a faster rate and world consciousness would become more positive. all religions have truths and falsehoods in them. it would be wise to learn how the subconscious mind works and abandon all dogmatic fundamentalist teachings to the contrary.
