I'm curious, really. I go on plenty of dates, and I'm not in a relationship, but sometimes when you ask someone out on a date, or they ask you, they/you assume you're committing to be in a relationship with them. Especially at my age, seventeen, and being in highschool. So how do you know if you're in a relationship, or just dating? Like, what are the basic rules of dating? Some tips would totally help, and I'd appreciate them greatly! Thank-you! :)

Dating is a relationship. You stay together emotionally and physically (no cheating) while dating.

There are no rules, that's the first rule. There are some ideal situations"
1. In a relationship, neither dates or "sees" other people.
2. In dating, you or he/she have a verbal or unspoken knowledge that you're open to "seeing" or dating other people.
3. People have their own ideas about these things. If someone asks you out on a date, how could they think its going to become a relationship- it may be wishful thinking, but premature.

Well, I guess, just lean in for a kiss. If it's deep and long and meaningful, then it's a realtionship. If they kind of give you a peck, or a kiss that just seems like nothing, it's just a date.
