What is the reasoning? Either way.

For more detail I was thinking along the lines of eye for an eye and turn the other cheek. Are these contradictions?

When Jesus died, the veil was rent from top to bottom signifying that the separation from God was no more. This is why we no longer need the law.

But to answer you, there are no contradictions, so I can't answer that. :)

First of all, such a scenario will never arise. Why? Because if you know what a contradiction really is, you would find that those contradictions we think are contradictions are not contradictions at all. A contradiction takes the form of A being non-A at the same time in the same sense. So try to put alleged Bible contradictions into this form and see how they unravel themselves and become non-issues. Try it out!

There is no contradiction, on either way.

Because you can't understand it, does not make error on the Bible writings.

My friend. You don't have the New testament in front of you in Greek with English side by side. I know this already.

Spend some serious cash and get it. It could explain a lot of things to you.

If Christian encounters a contradiction of any kind, anywhere in the Bible, he or she should sit up, smack his or her forehead, and exclaim: "Oh, I see! The Bible is riddled with mistakes, contradictions, foolishness, and anachronisms! That means it can be read only with the correct scholarly understanding of its cultural background!!!"

The Bible is riddled with contradictions and mistakes. All Christians understood this until the Fundamentalist movement surfaced around 1915 as a backlash against the findings of modern science, which made some simpleminded, fear driven people uncomfortable.

The Bible is a sacred collection of ancient myths and legends that contain the story of how one small and relatively insignificant group of desert people in the ancient world reacted to what they imagined was God's revelation of himself to them. The New Testament is a constituent part of that collection of myths and legends, the chief being the legend of the historical Jesus, for whose existence there is no sound evidence. In fact the evidence to suggest that he did not exist is overwhelming.

So the Bible is a collection of old stories, and is to be used as such. There is much wisdom there, and much thought that is very beautiful. There is also a lot of doggerel and nonsense.

So read it, enjoy it, consider it a source of truth. But don't consider it a source of facts. The Bible is truth, but not facts.

People who believe that there is factual reality in the Bible or that it can be read for the "plain meaning," are fear-driven dimwits.

And the ones that insist that for some reason the KJV is the only correct version are the dimmest of them all. Ridiculous! Time to grow up!

So don't worry about contradictions in the Bible. It is not important in the real world.

I don't believe there are contradictions in the Bible, but I follow the New Testament. Christ is our sacrifice, so we have no need to slaughter lambs to atone for our sins. If you have questions, contact me through the links. God bless!

EDIT: Eye for an eye is very OT. Turn the other cheek is Christ's own teaching of love, compassion, forgiveness, and putting yourself last. I believe that we are to forgive rather than seek revenge. So I guess I'm still saying New Testament.

The Old Testament aligns perfectly to the detail to the New Testament. For this reason, these two books have withstood the test of time. Making everything in each book the true word of God.

I don't give a sh** for old testament..... actually it was the playboy of medieval times.... because it contains so much "sex" inside that the young monks at the monasteries were "helping themselves" reading the old testament. I also contains many bull****...and it has many stollen stories from other cultures.

For the new testament....it "contains" also concepts, stollen from other cultures but I have a lawyer's and psychologist's approach...and I have to admit that, I found that it contains many, many right things....
Unfortunatelly the system that is based on it.... is interested only how to scare people in order to be able to exploit them... Shame.

If anyone has any objection.....we can discuss the whole matter..... email me.

The eye for an eye thing was because people were chopping off hands for stealing bread and chopping of heads for being insulted...the eye for an eye rule insured that the punishment fit the crime. If someone slaps me I can turn the other cheek. Someone slaps my grandkid and I struggle hard to limit myself to the eye for an eye rule. I don't see it as a contradiction, I see it as God's acceptance of our weaknesses and giving us an out in various circumstances.

It depends on your situation, I suppose.

The method to ask forgiveness of sins is a perfect example. In the Old Testament, the Jews were suppose to bring a certain animal to sacrifice to God for a certain sin. However in the New Testament, this covenant was broken when Jesus Christ died for all of our sins. That is why we no longer sacrifice animals.

However, if you want to consider terms of theology, it is important to accept both the Old and New Testaments. An example of this is what God is like temper-wise. Both the Old and New Testament say that God can strike us down immediately if He pleases. (Thus instilling our fear of God.) However, the New Testament protrays God like that of a Father. One who is there to love us and pick us up when we make a mistake. (While we have a fear of God, we can also love Him too.)

I hope this sheads some light for you in your situation!

In Christ,
Robert

There are NO contradictions in the King James Bible AV 1611. Ihave studied about 300 "apparent" contradictions in which ALL are explained. If you have one BRING IT ON!!!!

However, there ARE many contradictions in the new versions, NIV, NASB, NRSV, ASV, RASV, NKJV, et.al.
