God tells Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If this was the only way they could understand the difference between good and evil, how could they have known that it was wrong to disobey God and eat the fruit? Really think about this because the legend dictates that they DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG.

God said no that's how they knew it was wrong the devil has been lying to people from the beginning of time on earth.

The "legend" does not dictate that Adam and Eve didn't know right from wrong before they ate from the tree. Adam and Eve were made in God's image. God always knew good and evil. The "knowledge" of good and evil that the tree provided was the experiential knowledge of good and evil. It is the type of "knowledge" that you gain by doing. When Adam and Eve sinned for the first time, they were not just "aware" of what evil was anymore, they KNEW it firsthand by their own participation in it.

Knowledge is INTIMATE. It is one thing to mentally grasp a command and the warning of the consequences for non-compliance.. It is an entirely different matter to have INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE of not only disobeying a command, but now to know that the consequence belongs to YOU.

We know (with our mental capacities) that if we were to commit murder in the first degree, we could face life in prison or the death penalty. OK. Now let's eat our nachos and watch a video and get on with life. We know. OK.

BUT! Even though we knew of the law and the penalty for breaking that law, if we committed first degree murder, we would now NOT be eating nachos! We would have INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE of what it was to commit the crime - the screams, the terrorized faces, the gunshot, the blood splattering everywhere. And now the GUILT. And now the FEAR.
And we would also have INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE COUPLED WITH GUILT AND F-E-A-R of the consequences. Two choices, run away always looking over our shoulder afraid of being caught, because we now OWNED the guilt, OR to plead guilty and FACE THE PUNISHMENT. Guilt, fear, shame, etc. are the FRUIT of the (intimate) knowledtge of good and evil. As soon as they disobeyed, they had consumed the FRUIT - the result.

No, you are right in the point that they could not have known that what they were doing was wrong. However, God did give them a specific set of parameters to follow. It is no different than programming a machine to follow certain commands. A machine does not think about good nor evil, it simply acts on commands given by an outside source. God set the parameters and they followed the parameters, untill they were given a different command by another outside source that had access to the system.(Satan) The command was acted upon based upon this new command not upon a conscious decision of right or wrong. When the command sequence was acted upon and it violated the defined paremeters, then that was when God put up the big error message and the system crashed.

Which is why it was no great sin and why the concept of original sin is incorrect, we are only accountable for our own sins. God knew that Satan would talk Eve into eating and Adam had to since he was commanded to be fruitful and multiply and he knew Eve would be cast out of Eden so to obey God Adam had to eat too in order to stay with Eve and obey God.

If somebody else created you, and you know it, and they gave you everything around you, and then told you not to do ONE thing, you would intuitively know that not complying would be wrong.

In a sense, knowledge of right and wrong came when God gave Adam and Eve that first commandment: Do not eat from this tree. They had the ability to know right from wrong; just not the experience.

It's the same question that has been asked forever. I believe that G-d wants us to know right from wrong and that is an amazing thing. I also believe G-d wants us to have the ability to question and learn.
