My cousin has stuttered his entire life. He's 15 now and a $4000 tool could help him, but that's $4000. Does anyone know of a resourse to use to eliminate this from his life? He's done speech for, well, many years. Any websites or instrument recommendations would be appreciated.

Those devices are not a cure and don't always work for everyone. If you try it, see if it can be returned if it doesn't help him. Know that as soon as he isn't using it, the stuttering comes back. A better solution is to get help from a speech pathologist. Check out the web site for The Stuttering Foundation of America for lots and lots of information and sources of help. Check your public library for some of their books and DVDs, too.

There is a device that fits like hearing aids that slightly delays the sound a person hears.

When it works it is reported to work instantly. What is that "cure" worth to a person's self-esteem?

Yes, let him study singing. You don't stutter when you sing. It has helped many people.
