You're right, there is no contradiction between God and real science. Gould brought about the idea of NOMA and yes, there are things that science is concerned with and things that religion is concerned with. But they do overlap, and that's where arguments and conflict arise. The more we uncover, however, scientifically, of the beginning of the earth, life, so on, the more it points to a divine creator. Most evolutionists are still trying to build arguments based on data that has been proven wrong in the last 100 yrs. for example Haeckels embryos, Darwin's Tree of Life, Java man, and so on. The more you study the evidence, such as the Cambrian explosion, the Big Bang theory, general relativity, cellular biology, quantum physics, and so on, the more it points to design. And more and more scientists are admitting this. Most scientists that are open to the new research are predicting that in about 20 years, we will be looking at evolution and saying "nah, we didn't really say that, did we?"

Answering this question based on scripture comes very close to circular reasoning (eg. it's right because I/the Bible/the Q'uran/other scripture says it's right.) Answering it based on scientific fact/theory runs the same risk.
The Bible is already the most scrutinized book ever written. We've tried every scientific method and disipline (hard and soft) to prove/disprove it. Scientific theorys are also scrutinized, though none have been around as long as the Bible or has been as closely analysed.
Empircal fact is simply that. The book of Isaiah states "Come, let us reason together." God has no problem with science, and science doesn't directly prove or disprove the existence of God.
I say, leave it at that, read God's Word to learn about the Creator, and read scientific texts to learn about science.

True science is based on hypothesis and experimentation. How do you maintain that hypothesis and experimentation be conducted via the Bible? If the hypothesis was proved wrong, how would you respond? Toss out the Bible?
Using the Bible as a science book is more dangerous for the Bible than it is for science. Watch what you ask for. You just might get it.

We have no reason to believe that God exists. Science is about finding truth through the use of data. We have no evidence that God exists besides a book, the Bible, which may or may not be true.

Science is based upon testing guesses, beliefs, etc. for truth; if a question cannot be falsified or an occurrance cannot be repeated -- namely, if there is no way to demonstrate an idea is actually true or false, nor can it be made to happen again in a reliable manner -- then it is not a question that scientific method can address. Anecdotal evidence is not proof, no matter what one thinks of the one telling the anecdote.

according to a plain reading of these texts the earth is flat
since we have scientific evidence the world is round you will tell me no thats allegory
genesis 1:26-27 and genesis 2:7 are considered the bible text that teaches that god made man with no intermediate steps, what if this is instead allegory, figurative,
this is the problem with what you suggest, is it would put aside using the tools of science, and accepting an interpretation of what is literal and what is figurative,
this is the most unnacceptable thing to me, its why im on here on yahoo answers asking as many questions as i can to embarrass fundamentalist christians
i believe in jesus did you know that, but i still use the tools of science to discover what god did and how
the bible in genesis 1:26-27 might tell us why, that man may be made in his image, regardless of how thats the why
ive spoken my peace, i suppose you will give best answer to someone who says what you want to hear, that they trust the word of god and not expiriments of science that have repeatable verifiable results

But, but, but no type of ANY science is even MENTIONED in the bible!!! They were a bunch of illiterate goat, um... herders that would have fallen down and worshiped a Bic lighter had one been available back then. Sorry, but "bible based science" is an oxymoron...

When science is applied to the bible the whole thing falls apart and is exposed as complete bogus, no religion would like that to happen. They would go out of business

The Bible is man's interepretation of God, not God itself. Be not misled. The Bible is imperfect because it was created by man, not God. For us to fathom God is impossible. However, science is imperfect as well, just look at the nuclear bomb.
