I am not sure what you mean by "forefathers."

But many of our Founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson,
were Deists.

However, Jefferon believed that the ethical system of Jesus was the finest the world has ever seen. In compiling what has come to be called "The Jefferson Bible," he sought to separate those ethical teachings from the religious dogma and other supernatural elements that are intermixed in the account provided by the four Gospels. He presented these teachings, along with the essential events of the life of Jesus, in one continuous narrative.

Thomas Jefferson believe the miracles were silly and rewrote the New Testament, taking out all supernatural references.

Jefferson wrote to his friend Benjamin Rush saying that Jesus was a man, only a man, who had an ethical system that improved the systems developed by the Jews and Greeks.

So, the very guy that wrote our Declaration of Independence, and who wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Liberty was no believer in the divinity of Christ.
