If he is sitting on the couch and she is next to him - no...

but actually carrying around, yes. My 12 year old cousin let his little sister who he was carrying around just fall to the floor because he all the sudden decided he wanted to go play his play station. She should be more careful.

My daughter will be 5 when my other daughter is born. She carries her 1 1/2 year old sister around all of the time, but if she dropped her she would be okay. They are about the same size. I wouldn't let her carry a newborn but I will let her hold her as long as she is sitting down. I think each parent knows what's best for their kids.. some parents don't use the right judgement.

First of all, if the baby is just a few weeks or a few months old (or even a year old), it is not good for young kids to carry babies this young. We are talking about safety here considering that babies do still have very soft bones and that young kids don't have the ability nor the knowledge on how to 'properly' hold or carry a very young baby.

Also, it is not healthy or good for young kids to carry babies. It would somehow affect their normal growth, too.

This isn't crazy at all. It sounds like big brother or sister is trying to be mom's little helper.

I have 2 daughters, 15 and 8, and when my youngest was a baby, I let my oldest carry her around, but I was there when she needed it and i didn't let her feed the baby.

There have to be certain limitations, but as long as there is supervision, there shouldn't be any problems.

probably not walk around the house or to be unsupervised...

i would however allow my 7 year old to hold the baby... i would put the baby safely in his arms and let him stand and rock the baby but probably not walk around too much

she has her reasons... and soon the novelty will wear off and the 7 year old probably wont do it as much anyway...

she must keep reminding him to watch the babies head and not to go up and down steps or to trip over anything... thats even something you could say to the child and get away with it without the mother thinking anything bad

Just wait until the 7 year old think he or she is good at carrying the baby, you won't be able to watch it will be so scary

No... Why is this crazy?
My sister held me when she was three, and I was a newborn, and she NEVER dropped me. As long as a parent is watching, there's nothing to be worried about.
Anyway, dropping a newborn isn't as bad as dropping a toddler.
Infants have soft skulls, if you drop them on their head, they skulls won't break and there most likely won't be any damage.
If you drop a 1 1/2 yr old, for example, that is really bad. You can break their skull, and give them brain damage...

Ahh... I hate that... my brother had a baby about 7 months ago, and his daughter is 7 and they let her do whatever the hell she wants...

She never dropped him, though.. but anything can happen, so just supervise the kid.

it's o.k.
my 7 year old wants to be able to watch the delivery itself... and since she's old enough to ask... and if she is devoted enough to WANT to go to all of the lamaze classes, we're going to let her stay in the delivery room as long as she wants... AND YOU KNOW she's going to want to play little mother to the baby and carry it. i just don't think there's any harm if they are tought to hold the baby properly and supervised!
