bananas make you constipated. Try prunes or prune juice

Yep - we all want to know, how constipated? As stated before, some babies just dont have a BM everyday. But if it's been days then you should REALLY call the doctor and ask his/her opinion.

Not to worry you further, but there may be an obstruction. And giving more and more solid foods isn't going to help the problem. You'll just back the baby up more.

Also, be careful of how much "make him poop" stuff you give him. Next thing you know you'll be here asking how to make runny poo go away and what are the signs of dehydration.

Keep an eye on babies temp. If it starts getting close to 100 - call the doc asap. Don't just give tylenol/motrin to make the fever go away because then you're just masking the problem. Fever means infection so beware!

When you say constipated how bad is it. Every couple of days or more than a week? There are some babies/childen that just have their own schedule. I went through this with my first child and the doctor said it was perfectlly normal for some childre/babies to go as infrequently as once a week. It fepends on how much thier intake is compared to what thier body actually uses. They don't eat very many comples food so they are easily used by the body. Does she seem to be in pain? You may need to give her some apple juice about 4-6 ounces that usually helps.

Anytime when there is a change in diet.. eg from breast milk to formula, from formula to semi solids, your baby's body will take some time to get used to it.

How long has your baby been constipated?

Well, you could try what my friend did. Her one year old was constipated for unkown reason and she fed him this natural fibre product called Fibre Plus. It is very safe even for babies and pregnant women.. (I was taking it when I was pregnant and thus free from constipation during my pregnancy)

Anyway, her son took it and started pooping smoothly again ;)

My grandson was that way. His iron was very low, kids were giving him iron supplements. Of course constipated! Supplements to that. Duhhhh, natural iron is best. But until remedied, I helped out by using vaseline, q-tip and apply around rectem. This way when bowels move, it doesn't hurt and tear. Believe me, hurts you more to hear em cry! Oh and bananas do cause constipation. Just don't give as much. Variety of fruits OK.

Um...stop with the fruits. They're not supposed to have anything but breastmilk or formula at this point. If baby's constipated on formula (like you switched brands or something) water usually does the trick.

Cereals and grains will help to make her more regular. Try massaging her belly to soften the stool...stool softeners aren't too bad for babies if you want to try them. You can also try pumping her legs like a bicycle or with her legs at the same time from belly to full stretch. I had one very constipated son...I think he will grow up to be a great cyclist some day ;o)

Give the baby sugar water. It worked womders for my girls. And if your baby is ready to eat solid food, go for it. Just mix like a teaspoon of sugar in a bottle of water. Good luck!!

Some infants cannot tolerate certain types formulas or milk. I would try switching to another brand. Also you could try placing your infant on his or her back and GENTLY move her legs back and forth as if she was riding a bicycle.
