In my personal life I don’t talk much about my religious beliefs with people I know only casually. Mostly this is because it is really not anyone else’s business. Since I’m not in the business of converting anyone there is really no need. With my friends I’m pretty open about it. Sure I get a little ribbing but that’s about it. I’m a Ph.D. so I get called a witchdoctor. :-)

With my parents I don’t talk about religion because it would only serve to really upset my mother (fundamentalist Christian) and there is no point in that.

Like I said above with most folks my religion is not something I feel the need to share because there is really no point in sharing it.

Because there is way too many unenlightened people out there with so much misinformation. I even asked a question not long ago if I should come out of the broom closet myself (yes, I'm in it still!!!), even though I live in a small town in AL. My fear is not for myself, but for my small son, who starts kindergarten next week. I can handle myself just fine, but the backlash that would happen if I told everyone I was Wiccan would not only hit me, it would hit my son, too.

I was not raised Wiccan, but in a non-denominational church that went on Saturdays. I was made fun of for that and the beliefs I had at the time all the way through school. It was a miserable time, and I would not wish it on anyone. That is why I practice Wicca in secret, away from the eyes of the world. I don't want my son to have to go through what I did because I'm not a Christian. Others can come out and be perfectly fine, and there are lots out there who do stand up for us. I am grateful for every one of them, but I can't be one of those folks. I support them silently and cheer with all my heart, in my heart. So don't be upset with witches, pagans and wiccans for not coming out of the broom closet. Sometimes that's the best place for them to be themselves.

Blessed Be!!

I live in the Corpus Christi (which means Body of Christ) area, so unless I am directly threatened with physical harm (which has not happended thankfully) I will not do anything about other peoples misconceptions unless they are talking to me directly about it, and if I did come out of the "Broom closet" right now my familly would look at me funny considering I have been droping hints for about two years now. Not to mention the books I have scatered around the house.

Because unfortunately there are still those who would suffer for it. There are witches who have lost their jobs, their homes, their children because of their religion. Not as many as used to, but it still happens.

I think that one day all pagans can be "out of the broom closet" without having to worry about religious discrimination. We're not there yet, but we're getting closer.

Well, some are just meek, and are scared of being persecuted, and others just dont feel like flaunting their religious views at others. Others just don't like to discuss religion, period. I personally am out of the "broom closet", yet it doesnt come out in everyday conversation, and I don't try to recruit anybody. I tell them that if they would like more information, i could certainly give them some references, but i dont push it.

I left the bilble belt to come out of the closet, and believe me there have been times when I wish I hadn't. There are very few where I was glad I did. I don't believe the world at large is ready for the truth.

Because many are in fundamentalist families.
For some reason people have been kicked out of their families for it… like any other people that are “black Sheep.” It depends on the back round a person comes from.

Blessed Be.

Firstly, do you expect "every witch" to answer theis question? Secondly, what is there to stand up for? Your spirituality is between you and God/Universe. You live in a country where that is allowed. What are you trying to prove to everyone?

Why should they? Why not just do your own thing and stop trying to push your self-righteous agenda onto everybody else?
