While interest in oil always plays a part in any middle east problem this country may face it is my opinion it goes well beyond that.
Following 9-11 the Bush administration was handed a golden opportunity to go after an old enemy. One they had already were trying to find ways to overthrow.
From that moment on there was no stopping them from taking on IRAQ. Common sense played no part of what they were after. The Bush administration identified 3 countries it termed the axis of evil, and IRAQ was right at the top.
I also believe that when fighting terrorist there is no real war. no head to head method of determining they are winning or loosing. So a real war was needed. One that was winnable in a short time. Over history the only presidents that have been remembered were war presidents. Other reason for going to war.
Once it began and we had removed the IRAQ government we had to follow through. To not do so would have been devastating to the IRAQ people, the very people this administration wanted to save.
So we are there and we will be there for some time to come.

Bush never bothered to read and if he had read his father's book he would have realized how crazy it was to remove Saddam and the Sunnis from power. It's funny how things we don't really like may actually be in the best interest of America.
But Bush didn't make the call. Cheney and Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz (sp?) were planning this long before 9/11. For whatever reason they wanted Saddam overthrown.
And they succeeded. That's why they celebrated Mission Accomplished, because that was the mission...remove Saddam.
Only problem they had not planned what would happen next.
So what now?? American troops are in country trying to protect the infrastructure and all the various contractors coming in to rebuild it.
What should be doing is creating three new states: A Kurdish State, a Sunni state and a Shiite state. Then we immediately move all US forces to the Kurdish state, establish our military bases there to protect the Kurds and to protect American interests for the forseeable future. Then we let the Sunnis and Shiites have their civil war.
And we stop putting our American service men and women in harms way running up and down the same IED filled roads.
And with the establishment of a democratic, Kurdish nation that truly wants American aide, we can step back and really feel like we gave freedom to those people who most desired it.

We are at war with iraq to make peace (though it is not working right now) but otherwise we are also there because they threatened to nuke the U.S and also if you remembered about 5 years ago 9/11 occured.
Aren't those good enough reason to protect your country? If somebody said there was a bomb in your house that was going to blow up in 5 minutes i don't think you would just sit their and risk it.
Also i do not think that John Kerry would have done anything different so don't think president bush sucks. Dont believe me? Then whats the use of anyone telling you the truth about the war in iraq when you won't even listen to us... "Not that you aren't and also my dad works for the government so i know alot bout the gov.

If exiled Canadian terriorists operating out of Mexico attacked Russia then, by these winger's logic, Russia would be justified in invading the U.S.
Hey, the U.S. actually has WMDs, and they have used them.
To get the real story here all you have to do is look at who has benefited from this conflict. Power and money, as always, is behind the actions of politicians and those who pull their strings. Follow the money. All the really big military contractors and suppliers, Bechtel, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop-Grumman, Brown & Root, to name a few, as well as INTERNATIONAL oil companies are enjoying record profits. Oh, what a surprise, these guys are Bush and Cheney’s buds.
Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9-11, even the chief liars have admitted that.
Sadly, if we had spent 1/50th of the money and energy we have wasted in Iraq on re-building Afghanistan, they would be the envy of the Arab world, we would be WAY more secure, and not buried in debt.

There is absolutely NO REASON us, as a nation to be in Iraq. Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that our President is from TEXAS, and was and is mixed up with the entire world Oil Business.
Big money just seems to beget MORE big money.
Oh, any guess what "Daddy Bush" is doing these days? Last I heard, he was working in the middle east, working "OIL DEALS". Might have something to do with the high gas and oil prices we are all facing now, you think?

Picture this - your house has been peaceful for 5 generations. You've been letting anyone through your doors who wants to come in.
One day, someone who you let in destroys a huge hunk of your house, devastating your family.
Later, you find that someone who has a terrible history of killing and destroying families has the capability to potentially do this to your house and family. Would you just sit in the fetal position?
In hindsight, finding and destroying the WMD's has proven to be difficult and the information which we went by (Republicans and Democrats alike believed in its authenticity) has proven to be shaky at best.
And our president isn't just sending us over there to die. There have been two free elections, a Constitution drafted, girls are going to school for the first time, and the number of new small businesses is up over 300%.
Stop basing your life on Michael Moore and put yourself in leadership's shoes.

There will be lots of money to be made in Iraq rebuilding all the stuff we blasted the crap out of when and if there is ever a stable government that can enforce the rule of law. Guess who will be on the board of directors of those companies who get the contracts to rebuild Iraq? That's right, "W" and friends. Its all about the Benjamins. Rich white men getting richer and richer off the suffering of others.

Our troops are still in Iraq because Bush is too arrogant to admit that he was wrong about Iraq. His administration knows the truth, but it is not patriotic to oppose him when he is in trouble. His incompetence and lies coasted us big time and we all suffering from his mistakes. How can Bush get Iraq and Iran's oil, control Saudis oil too, protect Israel, show off his power to Europeans and monitor the European Union and control the Islamic Fundamentalists in the Middle East? Well, he must stay in Iraq for many years to come.

Okay, look:
OUR men are there so WE, yes US, can sleep soundly.
OUR MEN ARE THERE GIVING THEIR LIVES SO YOU CAN KEEP YOURS!
Do you see any thing here? Any violence? Any bombings? In your neighborhood? No. Want to know why? Because Sudam, or however it's spelled, offered MONEY to terrorists, and said something like.. they'd give them $10,000 per American they killed.
Our soldiers are on the front line with guns pointed at them saying... "You want to kill Americans for 10k? Come and get us, we're right here".
Don't you dare compromise what they stand for by saying they shouldn't be there.
We're not just there to help Iraq. We're there for you and me.
Nor are we chasing "rumors". This is a war against Terrorists, not Iraq. Most just happen to reside in Iraq and nearby countries.
If you ask me, those who say to pull out now are being unpatriotic. You, as am I, are uninformed civilians. CIVILIANS! You go out there on the front line and THEN you can decide to preach on what our good soldiers SHOULD or SHOULD NOT do!
ALL OF YOU! YOUR'RE ALL UNINFORMED FOOLS! TALK TO SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN OUT THERE, AND KNOWS WHAT'S GOING ON, RATHER THEN WHAT YOU HEAR OF GOSSIP!

Ive read all kind of answers and agree with some...It was proven that they had NO weapons of mass destruction and in a statement from Bush about attacking this country he quoted "if you remember this is the man (Husein) that tried to kill my Daddy". This ia a war to line the pockets of the rich that have stock in everything that goes to that country including the oil...We Americans today have to be damn stupid for putting up with this madness. How many more have to die before it starts.
