You can add salt to some water and it will work almost as good as good as a store bought nasal spray.

There are a few things you can do.

1.) Take a pan of boiling water, add a good heaping tablespoon of Vix-Vapo-Rub (registered trademark). Lean over the pan's steam (not so close to burn yourself) and breath in the vapors. You can place a large towel over your head in a "tent like fashion" (I admit it is not very fashionable) to hold in the vapors and get the best advantage of the steam.

2.) If you're not too stuffed up or after you've done the Vix thing, use one of the "Breathe Right" (registered trademark) strips. I use them all the time and so do athletes. They help open up your nasal passages (like the commercial says). You'd be surprised how much they help without adding anything harmful to your body. MAKE SURE YOU WASH YOUR NOSE BEFORE YOU PUT THE STRIP ON FOR BEST ADHESION.

3.) Saline spray, as often as necessary in one or both nostrils. I have found this loosens the gunk but won't clear up the stuff that is up high.

4.) If you're absolutely clogged up, as a last resort, use a nasal decongestant in one nostril only. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!!! I do not recommend doing this very often. If you're still stuffy after a few days, try doing the other nostril. The trick is not too much in the nostril and not too often. YOU CAN BECOME DEPENDENT ON NASAL SPRAYS IN A HEARTBEAT and not even realize it.

Good Luck! Been there, Done that!
