William C,
they cannot take prayer from you in your school. Only you can.

Those that vote to take away prayer from school property, guided by the devil. No surprises. Politicans have been doing that for centuries!

Forget Global Warming. There's nothing that we can do. Anyone going to tell China, "Stop it!" I don't think so. There was an article today on Foxnews.com about their pollution reaching the West Coast. They are getting their war machine going. They won't listen to anyone. Conquest is their desire.

Besides:
What is the Earth supposed to be doing?
Get hotter?
Get cooler?
Or stay the same?

No one has answered that question to me with other than an " I don't know," or an unprovable answer. It's another one of those political things that come up in summertime. especially when there is a heatwave.

I've been watching the weather on internet satellite for a few months now. The weather in the western US has been going the wrong way. It is sustaining itself for some reason. Getting moisture from the south, and coming west from the south east. Not the normal pattern here. One hot year is no reason to sign any Global Warming Bill's.
FYI.

Why can't you pray in class without being led by someone else? You can actually pray at any time and any where if you are willing to sit in your chair and do it quietly. if you insist on being led in prayer by a teacher or student, then we are going to have problems.

People have been praying in the west for the past 1,500 years. And for most of that time, the lifespan was in the 40's. Suddenly, recently it has jumped to near 80.

You know what changed? Hmm.... prayer was already gone from the schools... oh yeah SCIENCE!!!! Modern Medicine!!!

Apparently 100 years of solid research did more to improve the human condition than 1,500 years of xian prayer. Chew on that.

And what will you do when the muslims, who are about 1/5 of th world's population, demand a muslim prayer next to the xian one? And hindus demand the same? Do you mean XIAN prayer or just prayer?

Prayer has been out of school for years now. There is a separation of church and state, but that doesn't mean that you can't still pray. You should pray at all times, darling(whether during good times or bad). The government shouldn't dictate to you, me, or anyone else about prayer. As long as you(insert your higher power)keep your faith and beliefs in your heart, you'll be doing the world a great service. Be well, dear.

Why? Because we have separation of church and state. One of the freedoms that this country is built on is the right to choose our own ways to worship. If there is state sponsored prayer, then one of our freedoms is taken away from us. When we lose our freedoms, the other side has already won.

Feel free to pray on your own -- inside the classroom or not. But if you try to make me do it, you are in for a fight.

If you don't like it, you can move to a Fundamentalist Muslim country -- where the leaders will be happy to force you to pray in the classroom.

If you wish to allow prayer in the schools, you have a LOT of gods you're going to have to pray to. In the USA, let's start with the christians. Okay, we have God. The Jews -- Same god, not a huge problem there. Islam -- still the same god, bit of a difference, but still tolerable. So do we just pray to the Yahweh cult's god?

Oh, but wait! Now the Wiccans want to pray to the Goddess too. And since they're doing it, the Satanists insist they be allowed to invoke Lucifer's name. And while we're at it, I demand we show reverence to the Flying Spaghetti Monster for creating the universe with his noodly appendage (yarr!).

So ... let's see. Do you want prayer to satan in schools? I'd say probably not. Therefore, better to keep prayer out of schools entirely and leave the issue to the conscience of the students, in private.

As the old joke goes, "As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in schools."

I'm not against people praying in or during school. However, there are those who don't wish to participate for whatever reasons or maybe they're offended by such activity and should not be subjected to it.

It would be great, I think, if there was a specific place on campus that kids could go to at some point during the school day to worship as they see fit. This way nobody's forced into anything. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen in a public school setting. I think it would be a reasonable solution, though.

Because in schools there are children who not only DON'T believe in God, but they have the RIGHT not to believe in God. Pray at home, if you want, or in Church. But leave schools free from religions. And as for the global warming and the war, make sure you're not failing to do something concrete to stop them, while you're praying. If you can think of something that can ACTUALLY do the trick, then possibly that can be done in the classroom.

The principle of the separation of church and state is that the state shall not legislate concerning matters of religious belief. In particular, it means not only that the state cannot promote one religion at the expense of another, but also that it cannot promote any belief which is religious in nature.

Christian prayer in schools is intimidating to non-Christians, even if they are told that they need not join in. It is particularly bad if the prayer is led by a teacher, or otherwise officially endorsed.

Children are quite free to pray as they wish in their free time.

I am against prayer in school, for the same reasons which were well stated in other answers to this question. But I was actually surprised myself by having the thought that you SHOULD be allowed to pray... for some BRAINS... so that you can come to comprehend why you are on the wrong side of this issue.

Well, this is something that happened a long time ago (people wanting maditory prayer out of schools)......

however, no one has REALLY taken prayer out of schools....people pray all the time....it is just oral formal prayer that has been removed.

Oh...and as a Christian, I have NO problem with disallowing oral formal prayer----I dont want to have some Satanist come in and demand that he/she get equal access to conduct some pagan ritual.
