I have always believed there is a God. I am having a hard time understanding why he doesn't put an end to all the evil in this world. Murder, war sickness...ect. I understand to some degree but I don't understand why we "people" haven't suffered enough? I've just been thinking about this ever since my ex-husband was murdered. And all the thoughts of the war and the people who are so mistreated in other counries and the innocent children starved to death or blown up and on and on and on. It makes me so sad. It makes me wonder what kind of God is he. And how could he let this go on for so long and not feel the need to end it?

Hi :)

You have to understand that God is a loving God, He loves all his creatures and it's not up to HIM when wars start and when troubles are there..that is why he gave us a free choice, a mind of our own, if he took our free will we'd be his slaves, and HE didn't want that at all, he wants us to come to HIM and to love him of our own will, not to be forced to do that.
You seem so sad honey, i'm so sorry that you lost your ex husband, so very sorry...He is in the heavens now, i am sure, he is your guardian angel.
Just please don't blame God on his death, it was the killer's fault.
And He couldn't take away free will of even the murderer the same way he couldn't take away the free will of the person who raped me when i was younger. Honey i went through so much pain and through so much suffering after i was raped, but i only found peace and happiness and true freedom after i came to acceptance with what happened to me and after i forgave that person, it took a lot of time, it took about 3 years for me to come to grips with it and to forgive, But I'm oh so glad i did. I feel closer to God than ever now..that's another reason why God sometimes gives us hard times, it's so that We Lean on HIM more just like the other poster said, and so we grow that much closer to him.
He loves you hun, He really does.
Please don't be sad, but concentrate on all the good things that happen in this world.
There is a reson for everything that happens in this wolrd, there is and some reasons can only be found in the scriptures.
If you read the bible, you'll find a lot of answers to your questions and to your dillema..i'll give you some bible quotes....and i hope it gives you peace and comfort and encouragement in this sad world. But also always remmeber that God loves you!

You have a very good question, and I believe you will be satisfied with this answer: (And its a long one ;-P)

People of various religions have gone to their religious leaders and teachers to ask why there is so much suffering. Often, the response is that suffering is God's will and that he long ago determined everything that would ever happen, including tragic events. Many are told that God's ways are mysterious or that he brings death upon people - even children - so that he can have them in heaven with him. However, Jehovah God never causes what is bad. The Bible says: "Far me it from the true God to act wickedly, and the Almighty to act unjustly!" -Job 34:10.
The Bible clearly states: "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." (1 John 5:19) When you think about it, does that not make sense? This world reflects the personality of the invisible spirit creature who is 'misleading the entire inhabited earth.' (Revelation 12:9) Satan is hateful, deceptive, and cruel. So the world, under his influence, is full of hatred, deceit, and cruelty. That is one reason why there is so much suffering.
A second reason why there is so much suffering is that mankind has been imperfect and sinful ever since the rebellion in the garden of Eden. Sinful humans tend to struggle for dominance, and this results in wars, opression, and suffering. (Ecclesiastes 4:1; 8:9) A third reason for suffering is "time and unforeseen occurence." (Ecclesiastes 9:11) In a world without Jehovah as a protective Ruler, people may suffer because they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

>>>>>>>>>>>So why!?!?!

Back when Satan led Adam and Eve into disobeying Jehovah, and important question was raised. Satan did not call into question Jehovah's power. Even Satan knows that there is no limit to Jehovah's power. Rather, Satan questioned Jehovah's right to rule. By calling God a liar who withholds good from his subjects, Satan charged that Jehovah is a bad ruler (Genesis 3:2-5).
Adam and Eve rebelled against Jehovah. In effect, they said: "We do not need Jehovah as our Ruler. We can decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong." How could Jehovah settle this issue? How could he teach that his way is truly best, and that rebellers are wrong?
Many say Jehovah should have wiped Adam and Eve off of the earth. However, getting rid of the rebels in Eden would not have answered the question that had been raised regarding Jehovah's right to rule.

Let us consider an illustration :)
Imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem. A clever but rebellious student claims that the teachers way of solving the problem is wrong. Implying that the teacher is not capable, this rebel insists that he knows a much better way to solve the problem. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious. What should the teacher do? If he throws the rebels out of the class, what will be the effect on the other students? Will they not believe that their fellow student and those who joined him are right? All the other students in the class might lose respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being wrong. But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how he would solve the problem.

Jehovah has done something similar to what the teacher does. Remember that the rebels in Eden were not the onle ones involved. Millions of angels were watching. (Job 38:7; Daniel 7:10) How Jehovah handled the rebellion would greatly affect all those angels and eventually all intelligent creation. So, what has Jehovah done? He has allowed Satan to show how he would rule mankind. God has also allowed humans to govern themselves under Satan's guidance.
The teacher in our illustration knows that the rebel and the students on his side are wrong. But he also knows that allowing them the opportunity to try to prove their point will benefit the whole class. When the rebels fail, all honest students will see that the teacher is the only one qualified to lead the class. They will then understand why the teacher thereafter removes any reels from the class. Similarly, Jehovah knows that all honesthearted humans and angels will benefit from seeing that Satan and his fellow rebels have failed and that humans cannot govern themselves. Like Jeremiah of old, they will learn this vital truth: "I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step." (Jeremiah 10:23)

After learning this, it makes sense that Jehovah has not helped Satan. If God were to prevent horrible crimes, for instance, would he not, in effect, be supporting the case of the rebels?

The evil in the world is a result of the sin of man. If God put an end to all the sin in the world, He would be putting an end to everyone since everyone sins. God did do something about isin a couple of times. First the flood several thousand years ago, then He sent His Son Jesus Christ 2000 years ago to make an antonement for sin so that through Christ men might have the grace of God for forgiveness of sins.
The biggest problem is that many people reject the grace of God and in many sin runs wild. Some day, probably soon, judgement upon the entire human race will occur and the peace man has longed for will come.

I have had two experience that I personally credit with direct contact with The Ineffable. I do not expect you to believe me or to credit much beyond that first statement. But here is what I gathered and you can take it for what it is worth. It is not from a book.

God does not care about what is going on here. I mean not in any way that you or I can understand. Your question is right on the money. If there is a God (and I DO have that experience) then why is there what most of us call evil? Just like why do people pray for things or outcomes? Just does not seem effective. You can put it to the test all you want. Scientific and all, double blind. I pray to Ra and you pray to Yod Hey Vav Hey; same result. I know: thou shalt not tempt thy God.

Well, God is not man. Man has put all these things on God but fact is, God is not man. And to claim to be favored of God is both conceit and a reality. In my experience (and again, this all may be the experience of a brain that was near death and not to be trusted), God accepted me, loved me and further, there was just a smidge of God inside me. And wilder still, that smidge was inside everyone. Yep, even George W. too.

Maybe we are all working to reassemble God. That part is from a book, BTW. Maybe that is what it is all about. And when we are good and harmonious and kind, more of those parts get together. I don't know that. Interesting explanation.

I do know that books do not help. Books are written by humans (no matter how "divinely inspired" they claim to be). And we all suffer. Buddhists make a whole philosophy out of how to stop suffering. You might want to read some of their stuff. Not much to do with God, either.

So there it is. With life we live it forward and understand it backward.

Big hug from one human to another.

God allows us to handle our own business here. It seems you understand that. The other thing is this is God's plan, therefore God is able to see the bigger picture of things. God was there when all was created and watches now (I believe we make God sad with all of the sin, hurting others, war, exploitation, etc). But God knows the end result. We are only here for a short time but Heaven is eternal. Therefore all of those who suffer for 20 years will have it made up to them by God for 20,000 years. Those who are poor and are exploited by the rich all of their lives but are good hearted will have an entire lifetime in Heaven of riches. Its hard to think about now, but such things must be allowed to happen or then we lose free will. That is against what God has set. Once 1000 yrs roll past in Heaven, all that have suffered now will surely have forgotten what they went through. Plus, God hasn't completely given up on all of those evil people doing this stuff. Some may still come to know him and share in eternal rewards.

That's very understandable to question these things, and I'm so very sorry that your ex-husband was murdered.

I've been through rough times and wonder why things are allowed to happen.

To me, I believe it all goes down to free will. People have the right to make choices good and bad, and these choices often lead to conflicts, which lead to war. Then we expect God to interfere with the free will and make it all fixed.

But then we're praying "god let my side win" and there are people praying on both sides of most conflicts this very same thing.

As far as why people suffer, I don't know, especially when I see or hear of a child that died.

I just know that God does sustain me during these times.

It will come to an end and it does seem like a long time but its obviously not a case of "they've suffered long enough" when people have not yet learned from it. As you see here, there are some very nasty hateful people just in a small section of a website.... would you like for all of them to not learn this is not the way to be? If it ends right now, they dont have a chance and not all of them are vile people but just missinformed and misslead. the Bible says in Romans 11, that Isreal's heart is hardened to the Gospel until a FULL number of Gentiles come. Obviously there has not been a full number yet. But, dont worry it will come :)

You are concentrating on the all the evil and forgetting about all the good there is in this world. God isn't evil and neither is man, but mankind is prone to do evil. You ask why does God allow thisl? Because he gave us free will. That means He allows us to choose. We often choose evil. But not usually.

Think about it this way: are most people you know usually depressed or sad most of the time? I bet they aren't. Most people are quite content most of the time with short periods of unhappiness. But the sum total of emotions in this world is much more on the happy side than unhappy.

You may wonder why God allows natural disasters to happen. That may seem evil. But it also give us more opportunities to love our neighbors. Think about hurrican Katrina. That was a terrible event, but the entire nation was united in a relief effort. Much good came from it.

God doens't just sit back and allow all this to happen. We are his hands which he uses all the time to show people his love. Try focusing on the good things that people do in this world. You'll begin to view God differently, I think.

This life is not the end of existence. Our lives here represent only a few moments of our true existence. I don't know if the rest of existence is heaven or reincarnation, but it is more than this.

If you believe that, then you know that God sees our true existence, and the temporary suffering we do here is not the end of our lives. That is why He lets us decide how we will live, and what we will do with the world He gave us. And that is how He wil judge us.

I am very sorry for your loss. The world is full of sickness and sadness. It is up to us to live a good life and leave this place better for our having been here.

The book of Revelation must be completed and not stopped. We must see all things that are written within that book. The hatred is all around us and next are the condemnation of the churches. Most churches are following the world and what the world provides or wants. Take any issue that the church should accept and you will know what is to happen.

After the hatred of christians takes hold next the killing of christians will be right behind. Just keep watching and understanding - stand firm in your belief in God and the coming of Jesus.
