islam recognizes monothiesm. Thats why we call God as "Allah" in islam.
The word "Allah" literally means itself, "The only one worthy to be worshipped". "Allah" comes from the Arabic word "elah" - (Arabic) means 'a god' or 'anything that is worshipped'. In Arabic "Al" means "The". Al-elah combines makes "The god", but it still doesn't mean what "Allah" means, because this could still be made plural. This word (elah) can be made plural, as in "aleha" and it can be male or female, and Allah does not have any gender. Therefore, the word "Allah" is perfected way to describe "the God", because it cannot be made plural, nor can it be made into a gender of either male or female. The reason for calling God , Allah is because 'Allah' is unique word unlike God. The word God can be play with. E.g. Goddess, Godfather, Godmother, TinGod.
Prophet Muhammad pbuh was asked to define "Allah", then the chapter 112 was revealed on him which says,
"Say: He is Allah, The One and Only. "Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.
"He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him."
