This should be in your textbook, but generally: You must stop so that your front bumper is at or behind the white line (if there is one) or no further than the sign itself (if there's no other guide). The car must stop moving completely, if only for a moment.
California used to permit 'rolling stops' where you had to slow down enough that you *could* stop if you had to, but if there was no opposing traffic you could then roll right on through. I don't know if they still allow this, so check your local laws.

Grin. Slow down and come gracefully to a complete stop, do not come to a screeching stop...for some reason drivers ed instructers do not care for this.
Also, make sure you come to a complete stop, not a rolling stop. Drivers ed instructers are very particular about this distinction...or at least mine was.
Good luck.

only stop if noone else is comming. Actually.. you come to a complete stop. Look in all directions. If it is a 4-way stop the first person to stop goes 1st, etc. If someone stops at the same time the person turning right goes 1st??? Well....i'm not so sure about this I usually wait for someone to honk or wave me on. as long as you don't get into a wreck

Stop and wait till everything on your car stops. Normally counting till 3 should do it. It needs to make a little bounce in order for it to completely stop.

Stop.
Don't proceed until the intersection is clear.
If it is a 4way stop and more than one vehicle stops at the same time the one on the right has the right of way.

you have to come to a complete stop before the stop sign. if your turning right or left, you have to signal either and look both ways to make sure you can go.
