for years. i can't go certain places, cant be in large crowds that i dont know anyone, cant be over stressed, it's a little complicated with me. and i get them when i have flashbacks. i hate it... ya get a sharp pain in your chest, heart races, sometimes i sweat, i start hyperventalating, my body gets tingly and numb, i get dizzy and feel like i'm about to pass out, and sometimes i cry. but i take Zolfot to help me out with that part.. and something else for my bipolar.

I used to have severe panic attacks. I know how awful they are. For me, what helped was learning breathing techniques from a very compassionate therapist. Plus, I took Klonopin for a few years, in addition to Wellbutrin and Paxil.
It does get better.
About a year after the panic attacks stopped, I got memories of being sexually abused in childhood. So, for me I think that was the panic was all about, and once I got the memories, while I've had high levels of anxiety, I haven't had a panic attack since. That was over 7 years ago.
Seek help - it's out there. A great therapist in tandem with some meds will make it much more manageable.
You're not alone. There are so many people who struggle with this.
Peace and healing.

It seems that you are a young driver, without much positive experience. Driving with a -relaxed, yet cautious- adult in the passenger seat for a few months longer may be just what you need to gain confidence. Sticking to slower residential streets or country roads can take some of the pressure off of you until you become more confident. Tense drivers are not very safe drivers. When you do get tense or anxious, or your pulse goes too fast then you need to take a break - for your own safety as well as other people's. So, pull off the road, or into a parking lot. Actually get out of your car and walk around until you are back in control and less tense or anxious. When you do start your car again, your entire attention needs to be on the road, and not on how you're feeling. The good thing is, with practice and positive experiences you will likely find the panic fades away. Safety has got to be your 1st goal.

I have had several of them lately, due to the fact that I have started going through menopause; and that is one of the things that can happen with all the chemical changes that are going on within the body. Luckily, I had done a lot of research over the past few years, to prepare for this happening; so once my brain caught up with what was happening; I thought ohh, I'm not having a heart attack...I had the racing heartbeat and the out of control feeling...this is a panic attack. I am allergic to many prescribed medications, so have to work my way around these types of difficulties in more natural ways with better diet, more exercise and herbal treatments; such as St. Johns Wort. Have you been diagnosed by a doctor? Do so, you do not want to be losing out on living life because of this. I have learned to be very "body aware" and made the decision several years ago, to leave a very stressful work situation and restructure my life a bit. I have some friends who have had some luck with acupuncture for their panic attacks, that could be something you could consider. I had acupuncture for migraines at one point in time and it worked for me. Exercise can help as well. Don't be too hard on yourself, it is a high percentage of people who suffer from panic attacks. It is stress related, so be good to yourself, and make sure that the people in your life are treating you well also. Best of luck to you and have a good night!

I had it bad when I was younger, but it mostly went away...
until I went to a workshop and when I walked into library room, I froze; many people were already sitting there waiting for the instructor to arrive. It looked like a classroom.
Worse, when the instructor did come in, she rearranged the desks so that everyone would face eachother! Boy, did I ever sweat. I couldn't talk or ask questions for the first half of the day!
I told myself that I could leave anytime, but I stayed and I managed to get over my panic attack.

That could be agripobia or social anxiety, or the fear of reaccuring panic attacks. Either or, you have to slowly ween yourself into these situations knowing that no one has ever died from a panic attack. Dont worry what other people think, many have the same problem. Learn breathing techniques before facing your phobias.

I can relate. I have panic attacks when I'm in crowded stores, or the dentist chair, or in a traffic jam. Nothing I've found really works, except to get out of the situation as quickly as possible.

it sounds like you may have some form of anxiety. anxiety is a general term and there are many forms of anxiety; specific phobia, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, acute stress disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, substance induced anxiety disorder, andanxiety disorder due to medical condition. any of theese forms of anxiety can cause a panic attack and the fear of panic attacks can make you scared to go places. the important thing is that you talk to your doctor or a psychiatrsit to get medication to help you. i have generalized anxiety disorder. i lived my life with out getting it treated for many years. i finally accepted i needed medication. i take lexapro and love it. there are many forms of medication you can take to help with your anxiety. since i began using meds i have seen big improvements in feeling nervouse in public, am able to be aroun small crowds, i have less hot flashes, i dont get feelings of not bieng able to breath, i dont have to run to the bathroom and try to urinate after just going 2 minutes prior, i dont sweat as much, im not constipated, im less anxious, my blood pressure went down, i can concentrate better, i dont get so emotional when im upset and cry or yell for no reason. i can go on and on about my benefits. i urge you to talk to your dr. however i would recommend that you look into medication before going in to see a dr. consider this, the diffrent drug classes you can get prescribed there are benzodiazapines such as xanax, ativan, valium, clonipin however this class of medications is very addicting and can cause sedation. i have never allowed myself to take this type of medication because i know that i drive a lot and can not be sedated and i know i can get addicted easily because of my personality type. then there are MAOI inhibitors but i dont know any of there names. i know that MAOI meds interact with A LOT of things so you will need to make sure to read ingredients ALL THE TIME. then thier are SSRI's which is what I use. it is an anti depressant and anti anxiety together. then last but not least there is Buspar which i belive is the only anti anxiety med that doesnt fit into one of the medication classes listed above. but remember you are not alone. i recommend seeing a therapist or counselor about graded exposure therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy or systematic desesitization therapy. any of theese forms of therapy depend on the diagnosis you recive from your doctor but may really be able to help you
