She is at the age when she wakes up from a nap she sometimes can not make it as far as the doggy door. She is paper trained
so we are back to that next to her bed. but she digs up the paper while she does her thing which moves the paper out from under. any ideas of things that might work. ( i do take her out fequently during the day but this never happens when im around)

Try one or all of these as appropriate: Older dogs often have different dietary needs as they age. Perhaps a senior formula food would help keep the old girl more regular. Feed two meals a day, at about the same times each day-a regular schedule is important to dogs. If the dog is smaller, a doggie litter box may be placed instead of the paper. (You may need to put paper on the litter at first so she'll get the idea.) Have your dog examined by a veterinarian. Old dogs often have arthritis in legs/hips and spine which can make it difficult to squat normally for bowel movements. They also may have intestinal ailments or need special diets-all of which your vet can help you with.

Unfortunately this is tough in older pets. If the paper is over a tile or washable floor, I'd just do my best to put up with it. You might try thicker sections of paper. Not sure that would even work. You might try buying an inexpensive roll of paper or plastic and tape that down first then lay the paper over it. Either way...good luck. I've been there. It's tough and heartbreaking.

Try some puppy training pads. The materials are similar to a diaper so they are thicker than paper. You can get them at Petsmart, Petco and I think Walmart.

Keep your dog as long as you can.. She has been a friend and even though she is getting old, no reason to put her down. I have problems also with my 17 years old dog.. She urinates before she can go out... Older people are like that also. I just try to put her out as often as I can.

Here is a very good website(URL) pertaining to older dogs.. very interesting.

I would imagine your dog is suffering and should be put down. It's up to you and it's not a cool thing to think about but think about your dog!

bombhaus, has it, unfortunately. Good for him with his response.

I've been through 3 dogs at the end of their lives.

Your note has brought tears to my eyes.

At the end you will both know when it is time.

God bless.

Sadly she may be at the end of her days. If you are against putting her down, you may consider crating her.
