It's like my mom used to always say "I'm not running a restaurant here!"
You need to just take the baby food away from her completely and only put table food in front of her. She may not want to eat it during the time that the rest of you are eating but eventually she'll get hungry and she'll eat. That whole gagging thing is an act--yes, even at 17 months they can put on acts. They are actually quite good at it by that age. Ignore it. She's taking advantage of you. Don't give in, even if she's hungry. Just keep putting table food in front of her when she acts hungry.
It's either her giving in once and eating the table food or you giving in 100 times to her when she puts on the act for the jarred food.

I'm a nursery teacher and i see this a lot. What i do is get a food processor and chop the food until it looks like baby food. Every three of four days chop it just a little less. First she can get use to the taste then the textures. She well soon get the hang of it. Hope this helps

Stop feeding her. Put her in a high chair and put food on the tray for her. Yes, it's messy, but kids are great at putting things in their mouths. Just don't stick with flour based foods like crackers and cereal. Give her a bit of a banana. It's sweet. She'll like it. The more fruits and vegetables you introduce now, the better.
Be sure you're smiling when you give her the food! "Look what Mommy has for you - yummy cooked broccoli. Yum! Mommy likes broccoli - you will too!"

Try an assortment of foods that you would normally eat as table food, but find a hand grinder and grind it up the first time. Let her see you grind it up too. Leave a little for her to eat on her own as long as its something she can chew. I tried my year old daughter on deer meat that way. But a food grinder is a wonderful thing for small kids converting from baby food to table food. If she's seriously underweight, you might want to take her to her pediatrician for their advice.

if she will eat the baby food, try mixing it in some of the table food that you are trying to get her to eat. Cut down on the amount of baby food each time and she will learn to like the table food. Try not to use a lot of salts or other seasonings on her food, that might be what she don't like. I never did start my kids on baby food, so I never had a problem...Good Luck

It could be a psychological problem. She may have a fear of solid food in her mouth. This is not uncommon. She may have even picked up on someones food pickyness in the home. I'd recommend introducing solids slowly. chop things up really small but not mashed. give her a small amount along with the tinned food. give Her heaps of praise when she eats a tiny bit and don't push it. Ignore any bad behavour. gradually reduce the amont of tinned food you give her each day.

You need to consult your pediatrician. Jarred baby food is fine. Maybe you can start weaning off the baby by giving it cereals for breakfast or bread. As long as you feed the baby properly breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and juices and water, the baby will be fine. But do ask your childs pediatrician as to what you can do to wean the child off baby foods, the child will outgrow this behavior eventually. Be patient.

Some children are sensitive to textures..as was my eldest child..what I was told to do was to gradually increase the consistency of the food..start thickening the baby food with some cereal...or start pureeing your own foods for her and keep making it thicker and thicker...fruits are usually good to get them used to the texture because they are sweet and you dont have to fight them so much..additionally just keep offering her other foods..just put them on her plate..it might take 20 times before she tries it but eventually she will get used to what it looks like and she'll try it.
