That is always a problem particularly if your dog food stays in the bowl for any extended period of time... What I did when I had that problem.. I put the bowl in a larger container and put water in that one and the food bowl in the center with the food. Ants do not like water and will not go to the food. The PROBLEM IS.. getting the right size food bowl(heavy enough so it will not float) and another container with the water...Other than that..... nothing.. I do know that some people spray with insecticide but STRONGLY do not recommend that because you do not want your pet to be eating insecticide

At breakfast, take away your dog's food bowl after 10 or 15 minutes. The first time you do this, he might not be finished yet, but take away the bowl anyway. By dinner time he will be hungry enough to finish his bowl more quickly. Again, after 15 minutes take away his bowl. Within a day or two, he will have finished all of his food when you offer it to him. That should take care of the ant problem when he's fed in the yard!

Dump the food bowl in the trash. Where outside are you feeding the dog? If you are putting the bowl on the porch, wash it, squirt it with a hose to get rid of the food smell. Try to find where the ants are coming from and spray them with Raid. Or Feed him some where else outside where there aren't any ants. If you have a cement area outside, try it or wash it to get rid of a food smell, then try it.

We had this same ant problem every summer. We couldn't get the water trick to work because the dog kept knocking it over and then the food would be everywhere and the ants would get worse! My husband ended up drawing a heavy chalk line on the ground around the food dish. For some reason, the ants won't cross the chalk. Who knew???!!!

Ants travel by smell and you can find that out by wiping your finger across there path in front of them and they go nuts. So first of all wash the bowl out real well I mean soak over night then go out side where the bowl sits and wash that erea down with amonia if it's a sidewalk and rinse if it's the dirt or grass then Im afraid youll have to start feeding the dog inside if it is the sidewalk then you need to have 2 feeding places so you can alternate and clean, but my dog eats with me and I never make her stay outside she's half dobi and half greyhound and she's part of the family

I regularly get ants in my 3 malamutes food bowls, I take their bowls, and wash them out, or give them a run in the dish washer. and move their food to a new location, It helps, and make sure if you use ant spray to make sure your dog(s) don't lick at it. My dogs are slow eaters, and rather not wolf down their food, and baby powder works too.

Don't leave his food dish outside. If you must feed him outside, give him 5 minutes to eat and then remove the food. There's no way around getting rid of the ants when you have food in the area.

Throw out the food. Then get some fresh food.Instead of leaving it out..after your dog is finished take it up so that they don't have a chance to get the food.just lay down enough that he will eat and put the rest up.
Dont spray any chemicals....it will kill the ants, but that could make your pet sick being near it's food area.

Well I had the same problem,
I just put a small low bowl underneath the food bowl and fill the bottom bowl a little bit with water and that should help.

Keep the dog outside and empty and wash the food bowl. Then spray it and maybe get a new bowl.
