A seizure is also called a convulsion. It is a sudden attack of brain activity that causes you to lose control of your body. You may have shaking of your face, arms, or legs or look like you are staring off into space. Seizures may last seconds or minutes and can happen to people of any age. Your doctor may give you medicines to help prevent you from having a seizure.
The most common cause of seizures is epilepsy. It is a brain disease that may cause you to have more than one seizure. Other causes may include head injury, alcohol or other drugs, a high fever, a brain tumor, or an infection. Sometimes it is not known what causes seizures.

Seizures are neurological disorders that cause a disturbance or interruption in the brain cells. Epilepsy is a disease characterized by seizure disorders. When an electrical impulse in the brain occurs, this can trigger a seizure. Sometimes flashing lights can bring one on, or they can even occur during sleep. There are medications that can be taken to alleviate or eliminate seizure activity, or reducing the severity and frequency. Other methods or procedures, such as surgery or implantation of certain devices have also proved helpful.

Some basic causes for seizures (an erratic firing of charges in the brain) are head trauma, bacterial infection, and birth disorders. Some are born with something amiss in their brain, which can result in random convulsionary episodes.
Also -- studies have found that simple things, like consuming too much caffeine and sitting too closely to a television have produced seizures in some cases.
And yes, there was a bout of seizures in Japan, when children watched a segment of "Pokemon". Apparently, a sequence of flashing images triggered a number of convulsions some years ago.
I have a list for you -- go to this page, and scroll down to "Causes and Types of Epilepsy". Hopefully there's some things you may recognize.

Hope that helps, querida! =)

nerves in your brain, my brother suffered from Grand Mal seizures due to a fall when he was a baby. Check out the Epileptic foundation and NYU medical center has a FANTASTIC neurology dept. If you have seizures inquire about the Vagus Nerve stimulator it's a pace maker like thing that the put in your body on the left side you turn it on or "activate" it with a large magent you carry around. It then sents stimulation to the nerves in the seizure prone area, its been very successful in children. My brother had one implanted at 23, he passed away 3 days before his 25th birthday. Eat right, take your meds, and remain active, Good Luck.

Most seizures are caused by a chemical reaction to environment in the brain. Whats been discovered is that in areas that have lots of positive ions (bad ions) phenomena like this occurs more often. Strong intense emotions can trigger them, so can rapid pulsing images (like with some video games and eeg machines) Also, oxygen depletion can trigger them (basements have this problem too). I usually recomend sleeping with an ionizer on a low setting in sleep room.
I also think reactions to various harmful food additives like artificial sweeteners (proven in lab tests) and various pharmaceuticals are another cause.
To sum up, eat natural, live healthy, and balance your emotions (meditation). Meditation is a powerful thing!

Hope you're not trying to be funny. My brother died of a seizure. There's nothing funny about it. After it's over, the body is stiff and locked in position. He had a grand mal and no one knows what caused it. I'm not sure. It can kill people though.

Your brain has an insulating material to prevent the pathways from shorting out against each other. A seizure is a failure of this insulation, like a short circuit.

your brain starts sending random signals all at once. usually they are specially coordinated to fire only when a certain function is needed. that is why people fall and just shake randomly.
