I am thinking of buying one.

Before anyone suggests a Prius, I don't like them. I can't see anything out the rear-view window, they are more expensive, and they look weird.

Try asking where some owners can be found:

Maintenance is about the same as a non-hybrid, and can by DIY.

As for the Prius, the rear-view is actually pretty good once you adjust your mirrors (mainly the side mirrors). There's actually 2 rear windows, with a bar across the "middle" which nicely blocks out the glare of headlights from a car behind you. You can see objects fairly close to you as the window is rather low and not obstructed by a trunk. Of course, the new 2006 Prius comes with a rear-view camera that also helps when reversing... But, looks can be subjective, and if you just don't like it, you don't like it (not that you can see the car when you're inside of it, but...).

I do not own one, but I agree with you. Additionally, I've heard they don't get much better gas mileage and cost way more to maintain.
