not really. they first give you something to numb the pain in your mouth so you will not feel a thing as they drill and fill your teeth. what might bother you is the sound of the drill drilling a hole in your teeth and the sound of your teeth being destroyed. that "zzzzzz" sound..."shivers slightly" i have had my teeth drilled and filled before and after that experience i started to brush and floss my teeth more.

If you choose to be numbed, there is bit of pain when they inject the anesthetic. You can ask to have your gum numbed first if you are concerned.

If you don't choose to be numbed, as long as the cavity isn't too deep, there is sometimes just a little bit of pain at the bottom of the drilling, but it's nothing unbearable. When I was a kid (back in the days before fluoride treatments when we used to get lots of cavities) my dentist never used Novocaine and it was never a problem.

My daughter just had a tooth filled today (her very first, at age 15, she was so mad!) and didn't use Novocaine and she said it just hurt a really tiny bit for one moment. The biggest sensation she noticed was that it felt a little cold.

when your teeth are getting filled, it doesnt hurt at all. But after the numbness goes away, then you will feel pain. I got 3 filled at one time and that really gave me some pain, so i dont know if one would be like that.

Yes, it hurts. You'll get a shot to numb your gum around the tooth that needs filling. That will pinch a bit. Then when you're gum & jaw is numb you won't feel a thing.

Just the initial shot when they numb your mouth, but if you get the laughing gas, it's not so bad, because you are laughing histarically. The actual filling doestn't hurt, and if it is done right it won't hurt afterwards.

it depends if your dentist gives you enough novicane. My first dentist never did and it hurt, but I switched dentist's and now all I feel is the initial needle to numb the area but it goes away within a minute, so not anymore.

if the dentist is using novacaine the first shot hurts, putting in the filling doesn't...if he uses gas no pain at all.

Yes, a little. But the drilling hurts more- especially if the dentist doesn't use novacane.
