Why is she crazy: It is possible she has an untreated psychological disorder. Unless she seeks treatment herself, or starts making death threats, it is likely to remain untreated.
How to avoid going nuts yourself: (1) Spend your free time out of the house. Use your home to sleep. Study in the library, hang at the house of a friend. And get out fast, either to college or a job, after you graduate from high school. (2) Keep your mind active. Be a critical thinker, and keep your emotions under the control of your reasoning ability.

People have all kinds of pressures in life, and sometimes they just crack up. You were not specific about what's going on, so I can only make some very generalized comments. If you're being abused, then petition the court to take you out of there. If you have resources, then you can possibly become an emancipated minor. Otherwise, just hang on until you're 18, go out and live your own life, and try to learn from her mistakes. Remember: We can't choose our relatives. You didn't choose her, and, although she chose to give birth to you, she didn't specifically choose YOU. This is not your fault.

Talk is cheap.
Act more like an adult, regardless of what she is doing. Probably, she's going nuts because you are becoming more independent from her. This is a classic crisis. You'll both get through it. Keep your boundaries with her and see if you can help her relax. Take her to a movie?

my mom is crazy too. To avoid going crazy with her, I put on my headphones and blast the music. That way I can't here a word she's saying.

Maybe your mom is crazy because of you???!!!!
Kidding. I don't know what the situation is, but if she is really 'crazy' or has a mental condition then it is possible for it to be genetic. If it's not, then you just need to learn how to deal, until you move out. Sorry.

Without any information about what it is that makes you think your mom is crazy, we have no way of explaining it, or knowing whether you will go nuts.
Specificity -- try it; it works.

She's crazy because of her past. Whatever you do, don't take meds. They'll make you REALLY crazy. Good luck.
