Get a spray mister such as you might use to spray plants.

Put your cat on your lap, on a towel.

Spray your hands (not the cat!) till they're good and wet.

Pet your cat BACKWARDS with wet hands, from tail to head. Dig your fingertips in and really agitate the hair, getting the dampness down to the cat's skin and getting all the loose, dead hair out of their pelt.

Rub your hands together to remove the wet cat hair, then re-spray and repeat.

When you're done, rub the cat's fur back the right way to restore its dignity.

This does two things:

1 - it cools the cat because the water evaporates and cools the air near their skin.

2 - it removes all the dead and shedding hair, which keeps the cat cooler even longer, but because your hands are wet, the cat hair sticks together instead of all flying up your nose.

After about five minutes of this, you'll have enough hair to make another cat. Best of all, your cat -- if it's even reasonably intelligent -- will figure out that this feels really good on a hot day and will sit still for you, after one or two sessions.

You can also get your cat to tolerate this more easily if you make a big fuss about how Beautiful and Sleek they look when you're doing this. Cats LOVE being called Beautiful and Sleek.

We've done this for years -- can't remember where we learned it. Our cats gripe the first time we do it every summer, but by about the third time, they really get into it and will lean, wriggle and purr happily as we cool them off.

I keep my house shut up and have the fans running and the air conditioner running to keep my cats comfortable and cool. I also put ice cubes in the cat's water bowl to keep the water nice and cool.

Keep it hydrated and put ice cubes in it's water bowl. Cats like fresh water too. Feed it canned cat food so that it gets more liquid its diet. Keep it out of the sun. Let it go to your basement. Ours is nice and cool right now.

Just leave out plenty of fresh water, if you've got a basement make sure kitty can get down there if s/he chooses. Not to worry, kitty will find the best place to weather the weather.

You should shut all the windows and put on fans. You can also put icecubes in the water. You can go to the groomer and get him shaved down abit. Or you can take a wet towel and put it in the freezer and put it on it's back. It feels good. I tried it just to make sure that the kitty would like it.
